My brothers been called up twice but has never been keen to do it, I'd love to do it.

Have been in the witness box and had the defence cross examine me, not much fun.

Two interesting facts few people may know:

firstly, the prosecution also has the right to challenge jurors. However, by convention they do not as the prosecution is "an aide to the Court" and the model litigant and it is only on very rare occasions that they therefore exercise this right.

secondly, for major indictable cases it is the DPP who lay the charges, not the police. Police may initially charge someone, but it is up to the prosecution as to whether charges are pursued or not, and what charges are pursued. All decisions are based on whether or not there is "a reasonable prospect of conviction.

Amazing that you should have two cases of USI/Rape. These are the two hardest charges for a prosecutor to prove.

I havnt been called up and would resent having to do it. Self employed so would not make any money for the period of the trial. That doesn't work for me.
My partner in the early 90's was forced into it and of course spilled all the details across the pillow and I was quite entertained by it all. I can only remember a few details but i think it was assault with a deadly weapon or attempted murder. She said from the get go she felt he was guilty because he had tatts and talked like a bogan, which I found amusing.
so much for the lawyers, QC's and weeks of painstaking evidence, the guy was obviously guilty because of his appearance and speech pattern!

If you are self employed just give them a call/talk to them and you can get excused from doing it, that is if you are called to do it. I'll do it again.

I would love to get called up. It obviously isn't something that would happen everyday, I reckon I would find the whole process fascinating. Obviously I'm not self employed though.
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

Oh okay, that's good to know. I probably wouldn't pass the interview or selection process anyway. No criminal record or anything, but some of my mainstream views on stuff are not conducive to being a juror!
