One more boring night in Adelaide

The only thing I dislike about Adelaide is the disturbingly large number of people here who like to whinge about Adelaide.

I for one wish that the naysayers who decry Adelaide as boring, regressive, slow, or any other of several negative epithets, would f*** the hell off to Sydney/Melbourne and STFU.

Im not sure Adelaide is boring anyway, while we dont have the one big attraction for people in the city we have many smaller entertainment precincts like The Parade, Glenelg, Henley, Nth Adelaide, Rundle Street, Gouger Street, King William Rd etc

Not quite right ... I believe that in the US they only count the inner city and not the outer metropolitan area, so it's not an apples for apples comparison.

well QLD shops i.e. woolies and coles dont open untill 8am monday to saturday and 9am sundays. so its not all bad.

I would think that the list of metropolitan areas is the most accurate - even though it lists a number of "cities" as one, really they are just suburbs of a larger city. From some of the cities that I've visited, here are some comparisons:
Miami -> Fort Lauderdale : Adelaide -> Semaphore
San Francisco -> Oakland : Adelaide -> North Adelaide
Denver -> Aurora : Adelaide -> Noarlunga
Dallas -> Arlington -> Fort Worth : Adelaide -> Mawson Lakes -> Elizabeth

Having said that, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in the world.

I've mentioned much the same before. Why call Adelaide a 'big country town'. It has a population of over a million and stretches north to south roughly between 50 and 80 kms?

What goes against Adelaide in that regards is the CBD isn't built up like other cities, compare the wide city streets with other cities and it gives that feeling of openess. Adelaide is reasonably spread out so that people dont have to live in highrises, it's a very suburban place which is good if you prefer that lifestyle.

If you look at just the population stats, it's comparable with many other cities that have higher profiles.

While I really enjoy living in Adelaide, the "Love it or shut up and leave" idea seems uncalled for. I don't think it is necessarily true that people shouldn't suggest ways it could be even better. For instance, I think a major aquarium would be fantastic, and developing the central Torrens River area would be (is going to be?) really good.

Yes adelaides city CBD streets are good. Everyone else in the country has population booms so they look down on adelaide as it is a low-average increase. good for the city as its not over populated.

Im a homebody, always will be and therefore I love SA .. Privately I can be critical of our state at times, but it's still home.

I do however wish we could develop more attraction-wise (both socially and with regard to career, mostly) for no other reason than to provide greater incentive for our younger generation(s) to stay here, rather than feel the need to fly the coup.

Each to their own on this one really, I personally find Adelaide quite boring most of the time, and the lack of progress/change here can really frustrates me.
I don't know if its just an age thing, but I'm pretty keen to move to Melbourne within the next couple of years, its just a matter of organising a job over there first.
Whether i end up like a lot of other young people who move to the Eastern states but end up coming back to SA is yet to be seen, but from the outside looking in the Eastern states do look fairly appealing.
