Lift to Alice Springs next week

My most memorably alerting drive was Blinman to Hawker at dusk - I counted 57 Kangaroos lurking along the road.
My brother-in-law did a back road run from Port Augusta to Hawker to meet us. He collected a sheep, a Roo, and someone's Charolais Bull on the trip.
His Land Cruiser was still driveable but looked a bit rough.
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

You bring back memories speaking of the kangaroos and especially the cows Jimmy !! :D

Got to love those cattle grids too !!

I was playing a game to see hitting which part of the grid gave the less rattle - still not sure but it did keep me awake.

Rule No 3: When its raining and a road train comes the other way - wind up the window......

I visited the airport once for about an hour on a flight back from Darwin, that's the only time I want to spend there!

Its like a turkey shoot in the dark - sheep, cattle, kangaroos and a frigging camel.......

Which one do I want to cut a steak off for dinner after I try to kill myself

One very funny moment:

There are signs with Beware and this one had a picture of a cow and a sheep - there were 2 sheep huddling under the sign trying to get out of the rain....they must have kicked the cow out of the space

Just sitting around the pool demolishing red cans and told that story - blokes fell off their chairs laughing

Apparently, its a tourist trap - the 2 sheep are made out of drums........

Ah yes, that unmistakable fragrance of Aussie road kill, just laying there, humming away
in 30C plus temperatures for weeks on end.
Ya just can't beat it for clearing out ya' sinuses, along with weak stomachs.
:ymsick:
We came across a badly mangled camel near the Tropic of Capricorn 'line' north of Alice
years ago when the kids were little.
Best educational tool in the world for road safety !
Stopped the car, all got out and took a good long look and smell at the carnage.
Then told the young 'uns ...."You'll look & smell like that if you're not careful crossing roads."
Still takes 'em 5 minutes to pluck up the courage to cross any street.

Yeah, lived in Ayers Rock as well and have done the trip a few trips.

Not the most stimulating trip to do solo. Plenty of mixed CD's on the way.

Boring as bats**t trip though.

Coober Pedy was always a "strange" town IMO....

I liked Alice Springs anyway....as a single bloke in 2002 I always had a few good nights there. ;)
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

I agree Southee - Alice has character and is a should see if you're an Aussie :D

Don't know about you Southee but what I found strange when first moving to AR,
Was when people would say they were going into 'town' and you'd be like "Town, huh?""
They were meaning Alice Springs as town even though it was 400 odd K's away ! :D

As for the Adelaide to Ayers Rock/Alice Springs trip - Coober Pedy was always just a fuel stop in the middle of the night for us...lol.

O:)
You get what you give....
