As pointed out in the article Downer has an agenda when it comes to the "evil" Norwegians.

That may be so but the voting panel is a pretty narrow selection of people.

And presumably shopping for US goodwill/handouts?
As I've said before in other threads on this forum, Alexander is a good bloke, and much more astute than people give him credit for.
His speech patterns, shaped by where he was educated, and his personal style tend to trigger something like class hatred in some people, and affects their impression of him.

Geez Psyber when your not hanging Sh*t on Port you make a bit of sense. Having read some of Alexander Downers articles in the Paper i do see him as a lot sharper and astute than i gave him credit for.

I don't give a shit how Downer sounds or where he went to school (especially considering where i went). My point is Downer is not unbias in regard to this situation due to his previous dealings with the Norwegian government over Tampa. But I guess that's what passes for journalism as the Murdoch Daily these days.

Downer once again making a fool of himself. While Psyber unfortunately lowers himself to associate with people the likes of Downer, Paul Keating summed him up perfectly "the idiot son of the aristocracy". How's Cyprus going Dolly?

He may be bias but considering the world wide condemnation of the decision as well as the general opinion on this site, Downer seems to have summed up the situation pretty well.

Maybe Obama hasn't had time to implement his policy's.

But does giving the world hope for Peace like no other world leader enough to warrant the award? I think so

Same as what Al Gore(2007) has done, given hope for a better enviroment and awareness of climate change, has he done all of the things he would like to do??? No

I'd argue that if Obama hasn't had time to implement his policies, which I agree he hasn't, the award is premature.
It should be considered next time around when they are implemented and the results could be assessed.
It is not an award for good promises or just ideas.

A definite case of premature adjudication ;)

The winners of other Nobel categories like Medicine and Physics are often only recognised years or even decades after their discoveries or achievements.
Peace should be no different.

Makes a complete mockery of everyone who has deservedly won the prize when it meant something. Its a huge shame that something as important as the Nobel Peace Prize now is relegated to meaning very little in a time when the reasons for having it are as important if not more so!
