I owned 2 HRs, a HK 186 powerglide 2 speed auto, and a HJ 202 3 speed manual. I also owned an XE Falcon 3.3 litre 5 speed. All were great cars, primitive with bullet proof mechanicals and extremeely reliable. However all other aspects of the cars such as body work trim etc disintegrted, due to the apalling quality control of that era. I believe Ford still has not been able to invent a decent door handle yet:D I've only owned european and Japanesse cars since. I could never understand how people could have an organsm over a cast iron OHV V8, a four speed gear box derived from a truck, live rear axle complete with cart springs from an old german wagon and call it a GTS or GTHO?

lol, thank christ they did in the 90s. I reckon I went through about 20 door handles on my XD.
I think the XD, XE and XF were the models that had those cheap plastic ones.

But never had problems with my XC or my cars since in an EF and BF.

The handles in the XD-EF falcons were cast alloy, if you used a genuine ford one and adjusted it so the handle only just lifted away from the door you would get 10 years+ out of 1, if you used a $10 cheap import or had to lift the handle too high to open the door you'd have been lucky to get a year, there was nothing wrong with the originals if they were fitted/adjusted right
(The XD had adjustment built in, the XE-F required bending the rods to shorten or lengthen to adjust)

Only ever owned Commodores, first one was a VN 'S', followed by a VY Exec, and I currently own a modified VT, and a VY one ton ute, also looking around abit at the moment for a VN SV5000 to add to the collection 8)
Before i started driving, my parents had, VK 5.0L wagon, then on to a VS Exec, followed by a VX Exec, then a VY Exec.

My Current VT would have to be the favourite :)
