I have often discussed with my wife where we should live in future. While I love Adelaide it has too much of a small town feel to it, mainly in that people tend to stare! Melbourne is perhaps a bit more international. I have only been there once in the past 10 years, and that was to Beaconsfield in the Dandenong ranges so I probably am not so well informed about the current situation in Melbourne central though.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

You are obviously some kind of freak if people stare at you, which means we don't want you in Adelaide anyway.

I love visiting Melbourne. It's great for a weekend getaway, cheap flights, and good public transport. Always something going on.

I dunno if I could live there though.

Always head over to Melbourne once or twice if not more times a year to catch up with friends and the footy etc. Actually going over there again in about 3 weeks time.

Love the place, and the wife & I have always said we'd move over there if the time was right.

Easy to drive around, good public transport, fantastic sporting environment, great day escape areas, great restaurants & cafe's etc.

Can't stand Sydney, but Melbourne I love it !!
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

A bit dodgy isn't it?

I was home with a 2 month old smac jr at the time, just finished a footy season and from memory was well in the minus as far as leave passes were concerned. I never did get back in positive either...

I have to agree. I think that's where I'll be moving to when I return from London.

I found Melbourne easier to get around than Adelaide!

But I had to come back to Adelaide to find a decent beach.

First time was 1989 State Game SA v Vic
Then numerous bus trips with Crows Cheer Squad in 1991.

These smash and grab lightening trips probably didnt help understand the place to well given the abuse we always used to cop.

Living in Brisbane, courting a Tasmanian we used to stop off in Melbourne for a day on the return trip, again not much time spent.

Working for NAB in 2003 got to do some project work which led to spending a few weeks there in succession, the voluntered for the 2006 Commonwealth Games so mades a few trips.

The Comm Games changed my mind about the place. The place was a buzz and the transport system light years ahead of the archaic system we have in SA.

Took Dad on a footy trip in June, did TD, MCG & TD in 30 hours, loved it and the ease of getting around.

Nice to visit, cant say I could afford to live there though ..... and of course no chance to commentate SANFL.

Melbourne's awesome, its like a bigger Adelaide where you actually have things to do!
First went when I was 14 to see a Bruce Springsteen concert there, went many times in my 20s with mates to watch footy and party on at the clubs.
Have started recently going again now my kids are old enough to enjoy it, they love it too.
I could easily live there.
I could easily live in Brisbane too.
Sydney I hate, its like another country, mind you I'd rather live there than Hong Kong.
Melbourne rocks, heading there again on Friday! :D
Anyone that likes partying, music or sports loves the place.

Funny thing with Melbourne when we used to go as 20-somethings, we always used to think there was a ridiculous amount of stunners (prob still is) over there, yet nearly every cabby used to say Adelaide was the place with the largest number of glamour girls!!

I guess just a case of the Grass is always greener

Have clocked up 10 years in Melbourne now and you are pretty spot on. It has all the accoutrements of a big city, but isn't as impersonal as Sydney. The sport and music culture are second to none.
