I noticed that Foodland seem to have taken over a number of stores that used to be Bilo, The Bilo at the Modbury Triangle is now Romeo's Foodland and it seems to have improved quite significantly!

Yes, the Port Adelaide Bilo is another, I came to your thinking just today, too.

The Romeos Supermarket in North Adelaide won the best shop award
for the best shop in the Southern Hemisphere a few years ago

This may sound a bit scanty
When It is raining heavily I put several buckets out to catch the water
I pour that water on to the lawns after a couple of dry days
I also have a hose connected to my gutters with the flow going on to my lawns
I also when Im in the mood at this time of the year use bath water to water the lawns

Its petty but it makes me feel good
And I get some exercise

SCRAP

Those obsolete Air Conditioner units, washing machines, dishwashers are redeemable scrap
A washing machine unstripped will fetch you about $10 at a scrap refunder
Stripping the copper from inside the appliances is $$$$ as well

This could easily turn into a contest to see who has the meanest, cheapest penny-pinching idea...

*turn fridge / freezer settings down slightly come winter
*use washing machine water to water lawns, the detergent acts as a wetting agent. Use Low Phosphorous detergents.-never pour over native plants as will kill them.

Heard this one last night:

When at Subway and you've collected your roll, the girl at the counter (who didn't take your order) asks you "what did you have today?"

As she didn't take your order, you can get away with saying you had the cheapest roll.
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

That must depend on how busy they are and also on the individual Store Manager's training of their staff. One if the places I go the staff seem to be extra careful to tell the till operator what was ordered. Another one they ask me like you say :D

TBH, I don't know why Subway don't just take orders with tickets like any other take-away place and have a waiting area rather than the trailing line of people shuffling down past the salads :?

BACK ON TOPIC

For those of you that have some spending discipline then getting a credit card with reward points can be worthwhile. Annually, we get at least $200 worth of shopping vouchers out of it (and don't pay any interest).

If you have time, go the the supermarkets just before closing on Friday and Sat when they start marking down the meat.

Find a good mechanic and don't let yourself get rorted by the major car companies with log book servicing.

I don't do this myself but I know I would save lots by taking lunch from home (like I used to).

Also, get rid of any EBAY bias! Don't use it for new things but for second hand items its great. Most recent purchase for us was a top-of-the-range-when-new baby high chair. Cost us $100 plus a good scrub, retail around $300.

Take enough money with you to work to get lunch, always keep your Licsence,RAA card and necessities with u.Leave your bank/credit card at home as you will not be able to impulse buy.
Also when out on the cans give yourself a budget to spend for the night and leave your cards at home (That way when you wake up in the morning you wont have that $50-$100 missing out of your account that you dont remember spending  .If you have to get a cab home just tell the cab driver you will be back in a sec and go inside and get your card.

Here is how i save money.
1. As a gamer I find spending up to $99 for a new computer game expensive so I go to Cash Converters or Garage sales and pick them up cheaper.
2. Salvos/ St Vinnies /Goodwill/ Brotherhood stores I will buy second's jeans and clothes because most clothing makers will always send their seconds to these places. Also A great place to buy books.
3. Use public Transport F**k driving the car since I started using public transport I am saving over $100 a week but I do work for the railways. So I get it for free.
4. Don't buy the paper some good kind sole will always leave you a copy on the train.
5. Use coupons for fast food or get to know your local fast food places my local fish and chip shop always gives me a lil extra when i place my order.
6. Home brew it is cheaper in the long run.
7. I do my shopping at aldi and the local supermarket use a butcher and greengrocer also don't buy your fruit and veg and meat from a supermarket they always jack the price up.
8. Cook extra for tea because it can always be lunch tomorrow.

Here's an idea for you guys (hopefully with no legal implications for the forum)...what about starting a swapshop thread on here ?

You could post a list of stuff you don't want anymore ie cd's, dvd's, games etc and a list of ones your looking for. Then hopefully pm each other, rather than fill the thread with chat, to arrange a swap.

Regards

Yep- we have one nearby. No Australian products at all. Chilean oranges and orange juice for example. We shop elsewhere.

You also need to watch some products for artificial colourings and flavourings some of which are dangerous though legal. Look up tartrazine [102] commonly found in most yellow drinks, many chocolates, and Tim Tams.

Rumour is that Aldi are planning to open a store at the Airport amongst all the other developments going on down there. Mt Gambier is supposed to be getting an Aldi store which will be supplied from the warehouse in Vic.

The sooner the better I reckon, wherever Aldi open, the local Coles & Woolworths end up dropping their prices, so we could do with some of that in S.A! - Aldi sell generic type stuff in large sizes targeted directly at those that buy "You'll love Coles Brand". :?

be good to your and her family that way you can have 2 free feeds each week, just remember never invite them to dinner at your place unless they bring the food and get rid of the kids as fast as possible and invite yourself for dinner each week as a "family tradition"

Golden Rule that will SAVE $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

MONEY LENDING
_____________________________________________________________________

Never lend money to people + friends.
Its the worst investment you might make as you can only break even if they pay you back.
