I don't live that far from Parabanks and can tell you they have had problems for a few years now, It doesn't help with Centrelink just across the road, drunken Aborigines down John street which is the main street in Salisbury and Junkies lining up for their Methadone hit from a chemist in the same street. I know a couple of young girls who work up until 9pm at Big W that have to be escorted to their cars after dark. Most of the Salisbury City centre needs a good clean out.

Parabanks is a waste of space.
And I mean that in the way that, SO much land and SO badly used.
I love 'Food and Stuff'. It's where I buy all of my food. And most of my stuff.

Very good call Diss.
Needs a total redevelopment.
It also needs John Platten in there running a sports shop again!

My parents owned a shop in "crashbanks" for years, used to be one of the safest places to hang around. My older brother and I used to watch cartoons in radio rentals most Saturday mornings and we would head up the mall and pester John Platten to head out for a kick with us at the park. Every now and then he would head out with us.

It certainly needs an overhaul, still looks almost the same now almost 30 years later!

I worked at Fasta Pasta in Salisbury for three years.
The whole time I was there the debate about the shopping centre raged.
How best to use it, how best to get traffic in there, how best to get shoppers.
Meantime, Hollywood continued to grow and grow and over take Parabanks as a shopping destination.
Could be so much better. Needs a shopping centre investor to come in and do a proper revamp rather than the half arse one from the early 90s.

Castle Plaza suits me the best, it is medum sized mall with a good selection of stores, no cinemas as yet though! - Sturt lease the Castle Tavern, yet I havent heard how it is going, yet always seems to have plenty of customers!

Golden Grove shopping centre is getting the full redevelopment, Cinemas and David Jones are going in as well as a number of other smaller stores. According to the local paper it is going to be a similar size to Tea Tree Plaza, although I will believe that when I see it!

People have traditionally knocked the Elizabeth area, yet areas change as urban renewel goes through its course. Not that I am any expert on investment properties, yet it would be food for thought that a rental property in the Elizabeth area could appreciate in value significantly over several years.

In Melbourne's east:
Chadstone - huge, pretentious, crowded.
Knox City - handy, but down-market, overheated, and a bit smelly.
The Glen - between the two in style and distance from home, and not usually crowded - and the air is better.
It is also my preferred option also because you can usually get a park underground near the David Jones lifts because that is the upmarket end of the complex.
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

Arndale and Parabanks both need upgrading big time. :?
A lot more people are going to Elizabeth And Munno Para because they have been renovated with a lot more shops and food, thats why no is going to parabanks!
I agree that parabanks needs to be cleaned up but Arndale isnt much better. Old and daggy and still looks the same since the 70s. I went there a month ago and i couldnt believe that part of the mall is the same since i was about 7 . least back then it didnt look like you were shopping in chinatown!

Skip Arndale, go straight to First or Second Ave (forget which one) located off Hanson Rd behind the centre.
On the corner by the first roundabout is a Vietnamese roll place. Pork and Asian salad baguette with HOT Chilli sauce....

PURE HEAVEN !!

And bloody cheap too. The English is not so good so just point & nod and enjoy !!

No, I haven't, that's the first I've heard of that place; I may have to try that. :)

The only two times I've used the rooftop car park at Arndale, one of the escalators (that comes out in front of Big W) is getting maintenance work on it, meaning a 100 metre walk to the nearest stairs. Not that I can't complain about the walk - it's only good for you - it's not very well planned out.
