This is one for Centurion.

I live next to a vacant block, and the owners are about to start building. They've asked us to sign something saying they can take down some of our side fence to put their garage slab down. Because we're renting we passed our landlords number on to them, cos we cant sign anything. Today I had an inspection and asked the landlord what exactly would happen, because our house has a laneway behind it, not another house. Which means our backyard will pretty much be open to anyone that wants to wander in and take shit while we arent there. He said they'd probably put a wire fence up in the 2 days we will be without a fence.

What sort of wire fencing do they put up? And is there any way they could do it without taking our fence down, because its really pissing me off that our shit probably gonna get knocked off so they can build. Can we tell them they're replacing anything that gets stolen while the fence is down?

They SHOULD erect something far more solid than just a wire fence, it should be one of those temporary fences that you see around construction sites, the same as the one that is currently surrounding the garden of unearthly delights. Of course you could refuse but that's just not right neighbourly. Sounds like your neighbour is building on the boundary & the council has approved the dwelling, so the fence must come down, just demand that you require something that's very secure.

Ok cheers mate. Ill have another chat with the landlord and make sure he knows how I feel about the situation. It wouldve been nice for them to let us know before signing the lease that it was a possibilty.

Would have thought that a vacant block next door it was a given.

At least the new neighbour has done the right thing and contacted the adjoining house. Plenty of people don't and then wonder why they do not like their neighbours....

some councils make it a requirement that you contact the neighbour.
it's not a given if they are building, it only becomes an issue if they are building up to or near the boundary.

But do they do it? No, it is amazing that people are putting their balls on the line for 300k plus but yet do not read a single bit of paperwork detailing their obligations as an owner.

HH3 here has someone who does.

if it's a council requirement, the builder won't start without the neighbour's approval.

Yeah the neighbour has to get it signed off by the owner of our house. Our landlord has asked them for plans of their house so he can sign off on it and they havent responded to him. That was two weeks ago.

Allegedly no accident!

Yeah allegedly was on purpose. Really bad choice of place to do it. I feel for him, because my dad commited suicide two years ago. But thats really going to affect the kids that found him for a long time. I intially thought it was a stabbing after the school let out, but the cops were packing up the scene pretty quick. Not really scouring the park for evidence.

Bloody hell! Only just read this. I got to work this morning to find police pulling a body out of a car in the premises next doors car park. Hose from the exhaust pipe into the hatch back.

They didnt do much to hide the body when they dragged him out, left him on the grassy patch in the car park for a good minute or so, uncovered.
