Glenelg Oval scoreboard displaying the scores from an inconsequential game between a Victorian team and a wannabe Victorian team - and NOT displaying scores from the other two SANFL games on today.

This might be a stupid question - but why would you choose to drive that distance in a car that guzzles that much?

Given the economy of most cars on the road now days, 17l/100km seems a lot.

I was wrong it was 19km per 100 on this trip but no problems apart from carrying extra Jerries. I should be able to improve on this.
Ahhh..... good question my truck is 15 years old but has only done 100,000k bought as a used Toorak Tractor for small change, I have spent an extra $10k to do it up so it will go any ware!
The other modern vehicles I travelled with did 11km per 100 but cost their owners over $ 50k.
I prefer to spend my money as I go.
I plan to go 10k per year on my trips for the next 5 years then look at my options. I still think I am in front and my truck has a lot less electronics that were causing trouble in the out of the way places. ( A tow from Mitchell Falls for a 200 Series Cruiser that had had its electronics shaken to bits cost $5k)

Can't you pick them up, dust them off and eat them?

Generally, I think, continuing to run an older car with higher fuel consumption saves more than the cost of upgrading cars, quite apart from the electronic fragility issue. However, there comes a time when you have to bite the bullet.

My wife's old Range Rover lasted from 1983 to 1996, and the Musso that succeeded it finally died in 2011.
Both were worth keeping up to the point of major failure rather than replacing them earlier.
In 2011 I bought a Suzuki GV3 with the 2.4 litre petrol motor. It uses bout 11 L per 100K.

If your cars are fully tax deductible it begins to pay to turn them over every 3 or 4 years if you play it right, but it is not as good a deal as it was when tax rates were higher and the savings were more significant.

X 1.5 billion cricket fans, clearly not competent for a guy who makes 6 figures a year. I am really disappointed with the guy , he is like Bucknor. Was alright and has lost it clearly.
