Maybe it was going to defend those so they were prepared to stick to the 3 murder convictions

he got 35 years for each murder, but running concurrently, so i think he wouldnt have got more than 35 years for that single charge?which would also run concurrently i assume.perhaps saving $$ or heartache for no result ? just guessing here.

Interfering with a corpse is an offence in other states, might be a commonwealth offence. Can't find it in SA(probably still exists though). Max penalty is 2 years compared to life for rape.

I suppose if he was going to be given a concurrent sentence, the lesser sentences become superfluous.
HOWEVER, the MOFO should still have them on his record - Rape and it would appear sodomy

Stephen Pallaras was on the radio this morning but no-one asked him about these issues.

I'd suggest that the following be added to his sentence ...

- Insert a 1" pipe up his rectum
- insert a length on barbed wire in the pipe
- remove the pipe
- let him work out how to get the barbed wire out

No 'concurrent' sentences, just one non parole period for the whole lot.

I asked about the lack of a rape charge.
Rape is one of the hardest charges to prove because of the issue of consent. When the alleged victim is deceased, it is obviously even harder.
As Jimmy said, it is quite common for lesser charges to not be laid because, (and I forget the legal term for it), there is a principle associated with "over-charging" people. Further, a guilty finding for rape on top of 3 guilty findings for murder was unlikely to make much difference to the overall penalty imposed.
He pleaded guilty to the three murders and its possible that an arduous trial for rape may not have been desirable for the families (just my thoughts there).
42 years discounted to 35 years for guilty pleas for an 18 year old offender with no priors was seen to be, at least contextually, a good sentencing outcome. (I think) any appeal would be against a 42 year sentence imposed (as the head sentence) and then, in legal terms, you start straying into areas of "manifestly excessive", "prospects for rehabilitation"and the like. Really, he was sentenced to 42 years for three murders to which he pleaded guilty.

Funny (not humorous) thing is, he denied it all for a long time and still got a reduction for pleading guilty
Does he go on the sex offender register for murder?

He got a discount of 1/6. IIRC the maximum discount is either 1/4 or 1/3 for people who effectively confess at the earliest opportunity and plead guilty at their first appearance.

Just for the purpose of some context, this current case reminded me a little of a murder from about 20 years ago. Was in 1991.

Obviously all murders are equally shocking and insidious, but this current offence had some more aggravating circumstances, due to there being 3 victims and the nature of the attacks.

This murder from 1991 that happened in a college in North Adelaide saw a young girl murdered by a similarly obsessed young male, who I think was also 18 years old. Sentence was 18 years non parole for that particular offence. I'm not a lawyer or an expert on the law, but I think that laws regarding sentencing have been changed since then with "truth in sentencing" legislation.

In 1991, college student Alister Thompson strangled fellow student Allison Nitschke, in her bedroom after a Prosh party held at the college. Nitschke's body was found by police in the Adelaide Hills. No rape or sexual assault had occurred, but during the trial it was claimed by the prosecution that the murder was sexually motivated. Thompson had previously told police he was fascinated with Nitschke's body. Thompson pleaded guilty to murdering Nitschke and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

The mother of the victim in this case set up a victims of crime support group in the Riverland.

Was in the same year level as 'Scottie' through high school. Awkward bloke but was always a happy sort. Had his eccentricities like playing basketball in a thick jumper on 40 degree days but nothing that screamed out, 'future killer'! No secret that he loved the reefer though.
Honestly hope he takes 50 erections at once in prison, Chris is a shell of the bloke he used to be when I got to know him at the Kapunda footy club, in that sense the bastard's taken four lives.
