On January 1 we were driving back from Mildura, we stopped at Waikerie for a feed and then the missus and I shared a beer, we got to Truro and I got her to open another where I took a swig as we were leaving the town, got around a bend and there was a breatho, I totally shat myself reaching for a bag of chips as I guzzled down some water that I wore most of, every car in front of me was pulled in except for me.

Not that I would've been done but the mouth alcohol probably would've registered something and I would've had to wait another twenty on an already arduous journey.

Many years ago I had a similar thing happen. Just popped into a bottle shop in Mount Barker, was on my way to the golf club for a meeting, and popped a tin as I left the bottle-o car park. Sure enough nreatho around the corner. Shat myself. But I had literally no where to go. Blew in the bag having just taken a sip. Damn near blew the bag up! Told the copper I had just had a sip. Made me wait 20 minutes - blew again. All clear, on you way sir! Phew!

Try a mouth refresher spray prior to blowing in one of them machines.............kaboom!

spot on. you can even be drinking it while driving, as long as you are under 0.05 of course. other states get a bit narky about any open alcohol in the car, but here in SA were more sensible about things

there was a front page article in the tiser a few years ago about how "crazy" it was that you could drink alcohol while driving here, tried to suggest it was against the road safety messaging at the time (imo its no different than drinking soft drink, or water, or anything else while driving, as long as you are under the limit). a bill was introduced into parliament to have that changed, but was never passed (trust me, ive read the relevant legislation. ive won this argument before :))

Almost. The charge is drive without due care.

Depends on your driving and the attitude test

Driving without due care has nothing to do with the drink being alcoholic or not. Its not even specifically to do with drinking anything while driving. Its for people who arent paying attention funnily enough...

I rate 2018. I've won my dream job which also allows me to keep my other dream jobs. Last Thursday my unemployed son wins 10k, this week I win 3 frozen chickens, a meat tray and two six packs. Oh yeah, and I got engaged on the weekend.
It's got to be all downhill from here.

I did. And you are wrong. Drinking a beverage while driving is not illegal.

If it causes you to become distracted, you can be charged with driving without due care and attention, but it isnt automatic. And that charge isnt specifically to do with javing a drink, alcohol or not.

Unless you can show me in the legislation where is specifically says that having a drink while behind the wheel is a chargeable offence, i stand by ny comment that it is legal.

That was my point. Hence the reference to depends on your driving (crap or otherwise) and the un legislated attitude test.

lol. getting that technical are we? why not mention speeding then. if you are drinking while speeding the charge would be speeding. which also has nothing to do with having a drink

or not wearing a seat belt. if you were drinking while driving and not wearing a seatbelt, you would get charged for not wearing a seatbelt, but its nothing to do with drinking....

sorry for not getting that far down into all of the other aspects to driving that have nothing to do with drinking a beverage while behind the wheel. going to correct my grammar next?
