I do my weekly shopping at 6am on Thursdays or Fridays, and more often than not, it's only those or the '15 items or less' lanes that are open. Sometimes they'll move me to a regular checkout.

While in WA the supermarkets still give out free plastic bags - and they are biodegradable ones.
The "buy a reusable bag" thing in SA was a con, and the current bags we buy are less biodegradable than the old ones.
What happens as they wear out and have to be chucked?

Victoria also still give out free bags too - much to my surprise on my recent visit to Horsham.

Anyhoo, just on the biodegradable thing - I can prove that the green bags are in fact biodegradable.

I put one on the washing line about 9 months ago and kept forgetting to take it off the line for some reason. There ain't much of it left, the handles survived and not much else
