Now the power is off to the CBD and surronding suburbs telstra have advised that the mobile phone towers are on battery backup and this only lasts 2-3 hours. Once the backup runs out...im sorry to say but there will be no mobile phone coverage for parts of the city

The Local Govt Assoc here in SA has just released a circular saying that they're putting together teams of workers to send up to help Councils up there with the re-construction effort. Hopefully similar is happening in other states.

SA Councils stand ready to help
The Local Government Association (SA) has offered the help of experienced Council staff to
assist in the re-building of flood ravaged Queensland.
LGA President, Mayor Felicity-ann Lewis said the LGA has contacted the Local Government
Association of Queensland offering assistance to Queensland Councils for the mammoth job
of repairing infrastructure damaged during the devastating events of the past 20 days.
“While our thoughts and prayers are certainly with the people of Queensland at this dreadful
time we also have to look at the practicalities that the State is in a state of disaster and the
clean up and repair job is going to take months,” Mayor Lewis said.
“We have offered to coordinate a ‘maintenance team’ of volunteers from SA Councils to
assist Queensland Councils in any way that they need us.
“Much of the community infrastructure, roads, bridges, buildings have been either totally
annihilated or significantly damaged and will need to be completely rebuilt. The State
emergency services personnel and all other relief people working in Queensland at the
moment are doing a fantastic job under dreadful conditions but the work of re-building will
begin when the floodwaters recede and this is when we can help our colleagues in
Queensland.
“It is at times like this that we need to think across State borders and recognise, as has been
said, that this is not a Queensland disaster, it is a disaster for the whole of Australia.”
Mayor Lewis said well-meaning people were being encouraged not to send foodstuffs and
other material until a relief system is properly coordinated as unsolicited donations can
cause storage and distribution problems for relief workers.
Mayor Lewis said conditions in northern New South Wales and in Victoria, where flooding
has been predicted, are also being monitored and offers of assistance will be given if
required.
“We expect to hear from Queensland authorities when they need our help and in the
meantime we are on standby to coordinate assistance if and when required,” she said.
Mayor Lewis said cash donations can be made by phoning the Queensland Premier’s
Disaster Relief Fund on 1800 219 028.

Need to revise this with further info we've been given today.
Some of it will come into the state but unsure of how much.
Seems unlikely it will be a major flood when it gets here.

For all in South East Queensland. I just watched the Channel 9 news weather. Computer models for the weather guys are predicting a cyclone to form off the queensland coast and make its way to the south east corner of the state around australia day. They said if this does happen and it looks like 95% chance it will. We could be in some serious trouble with higher river levels.
