I work in an industry where I get similar questions, from dumb people who are too lazy to find information out for themselves.

Key lesson is to read the fine print and you would be amazed at what you can learn....

There are apparently watches and watches.
Mine last...

I have two my wife bought me as presents over the years.
The 25 year old Seiko has outlived 2 leather bands and now has had a stainless steel one since 2005.
It is my everyday watch as it is shockproof and waterproof.
The other, slightly older, is a more delicate and slender design with a leather band I wear only with formal dress.
( My wife was part French - that's why she though I needed a Michel Herbelin I wouldn't have bought myself.)

I also have a couple of cheapies.
One I've had since battery watches were first launched is on its second leather band.
The other is Titanium watch and band I bought from Innovations in 2003.
I use the latter as a travel watch as it doesn't usually trigger the beepers at airports.

None of them have ever needed repair - just new batteries occasionally.
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

I'm a watch freak. Never wear the same one two days in a row. Mostly leather bands but some rubber and some metal link.

Me too, I wear my watch nearly all the time, wore a watch all my life and gone through a fair few, especially ones with plastic/rubber bands which have eventually broken. I've had my Stainless Steel Casio G-Shock for five years now and hardly had a problem with it.

Get onto Casio G-Shock watches nwdfanparade, I'm sure you would be able to find a suitable one for yourself and put your faith back into watches once again.

Settle ... I deleted my post pretty much straight but it was quoted.

The point I wanted to make was that not all people are able to read the T&Cs in insurance contracts for a variety of reasons. They can sometimes be difficult to understand or some people (like my parents, say) are not literate enough to understand the wording. Yes, there are certainly people that are either lazy or don't bother to read the details.

To me, it would seem resonable for people to contact their insurance provider to clarify the details, especially since flooding tends to be a standard exclusion, although my insurance company recently made it a standard cover. Much better than to expect their insurance to pay up after an event when the insurance company is not liable I would have thought.

Also, flooding can occur for a number of reasons ... natural events or such things as blocked drains, faulty sluice gates (as per the Pat at Glenelg a few years ago), water pipe failure etc, so to characterise flood risk in Adelaide as negligible is naive as insurance is there to cover some of these unforeseen events.

Finally, a lot of things are said in jest on this site and rightly so, but if you are in the insurance industry and that is the way you treat your customers then that's a bit sad.

Anyway, chillax.

thank you for clarifying.

Firstly, they're not my customers, I don't tackle insurance anymore. ;)

secondly, I was in fact referring to the lazy people who would rather spend 10 minutes waiting in line rather than 2 minutes looking for their policy and then complain about the time they had to wait.

Anything coming from a drain after rain is classed as stormwater run off - which is a different insured event completely. Since 2011, the definition of flood has been regulated and is now a standard on policies for most companies, with an "opt out" available.

Also, flooding can occur for a number of reasons ... natural events (Tsunami is an insured event on it's own ) or such things as blocked drains (stormwater run off), faulty sluice gates (as per the Pat at Glenelg a few years ago), water pipe failure (Bursting, leaking, discharging or overflowing of water or liquid) etc, so to characterise flood risk in Adelaide as negligible is naive as insurance is there to cover some of these unforeseen events.

Before you start calling me naive - perhaps you should take it upon yourself to learn the actual definition of flood - only one of the above you have quoted may class as flood.

Flood means the covering of normally dry land by water that has escaped or
been released from the normal confines of:

■■ any lake, or any river, creek or other natural watercourse, whether or
not altered or modified; or

■■ any reservoir, canal or dam.

Flood excludes water from actions of the sea, except that caused by:
■■ a storm surge if it occurs at the same time your home or contents are
damaged by a storm or

■■ a tsunami.

Yes, people are entitled to call and confirm - but it's the fact that the majority of SA will call tomorrow because of the panic factor when clearly they have nothing to fear AT THIS POINT IN TIME .

Now...considering most of your posts are about defacation, hookers and innuendo, I really don't think you are in any position to call my post dumb.

End of argument.

since Jan 2011 ;) of course

still people fighting insurance companies here in Brisbane over the claims that the floods of jan 2011 was caused by "a Storm" and not a natural accuring mother nature, hence the reason the insurance companies are running scared. Some compaines say it was caused by "human activities" i.e. letting the dam water out to prevent it spilling over the dam walls and wiping Brisbane off the face of the earth, and not by the ocean or a high tide etc. Its very confusing i know

a flood is a flood, If you are standing in water that is not there normally, that is a flood! If you are standing in a river, and then say oh my car got stuck in here or is normally here, then you are just stupid.

it's all just designed to give an insurance company an out clause so they don't have to pay people.

I swear tv stations love things like these floods, people are upset and rushing around trying to pack things and get out of there, and they are walking around sticking cameras and microphones in peoples faces.

It's disgusting isn't it? I saw some poor lady in Qld on Abc News 24 today tears streaming down her face doing her best to answer the clowns questions when right towards the end he asked "So you must be pretty upset then?". What gave that away you knob the tears continually streaming down her face throughout the interview?

I hate how much newspapers & TV networks get off on disaster porn and grief porn.

Blame the federal government mate
The insurance industry said they would tackle the issue of flood cover if there was a standard definition of flood
The ACCC said giving a standard definition of flood was anti-competitive so pi$$ off insurance industry.
The Federal Government said nothing we can do about it - not our problem
The insurance industry said - well, we've told you how to fix it and you wont, so it's not our problem either - you live with the backlash.
2011 floods happen - same problem. Suddenly, this fantastic government comes up with the answer - you guessed it - a standard definition of flood. Insurance companies begin to cover it. :partyman:

I might add: Suncorp have provided flood cover for the past decade - but, at an extra cost, and did an extensive media campaign to promote it over many years. Many Queenslanders thought it was too expensive and didn't buy it. Stiff $hit I say. Dont fu**ing whinge now
