Within short distance of a level crossing, find the point on the track where there is a small gap in the rail, and lay the coin across it to complete the circuit...

(It don't work like that anymore, so don't try it kids. Rails are dangerous!)

We got chased off the jetty by some locals with knives and Citronella on a footy trip back in the early 90's. About 20 odd of us and 4 of them. We thought we were pretty tough before that

Wasn't my Grandfather was it? Couldn't have been him with his hips...

On Rapid Bay, my grandfather slept on the beach when they first started building the mine in 1940.

For over thirty five years he and my Nanna lived in the middle house (#2) of the top three closest to the Jetty.

To say that place is special to my family is an understatement.

Will never forget the tall ships in the First Fleet reenactment going past the Jetty at ~ 10:30 at night (full moon, gulf dead flat) on 01/01/1988.

Used to love going there and 2nd Valley as 17 years olds, just every now and then in summer when we had nothing planned we’d get a car load of people and chuck the barby in and head down there for the day. Simpler but very enjoyable times

So did I, and that was in the late 70's, we went there every Easter.

Rented a shack one Easter and all we could hear all night was the mice running in the walls, woke up to our Easter Eggs being nothing but some crinkled foil.

We later owned a shack on Dolphin Road, first road on the right as you entered, second shack in.

I know Dolphin Road quite well, my parents have lived there since 1990!
2nd last shack on the right before the roadblock. Probably about a dozen further up from the one you mention.

I just google earthed it, brought back some memories.

Going over the hill for bonfires, raking crabs or just walking through the mangroves and knee deep mud on Shag Island, we got to know the deli owners well too.

He was 6 when I created this site!

Maybe a bit older than 40! But yes, I remember them. As well as rest days in the tests.

And 60 over a side 'one dayers' in England.

Yes modern technology.
Roman concrete got harder and bonded together more strongly with age because of particular metallic salts included in the specific sands they used. Once we dropped that selectivity and used steel reinforcement we set it up for self-destruction - fine crack , water gets in, steel rusts and expands, cracks widen, and so it goes...
