Initially I thought Ellen broke Twitter with her Oscars photo tweet.

But on second thought...

The usual out of focus fuzzy incoherent lacking in detail photos. Obviously not taken with a modern camera with auto-focus.

All this stealth, secrecy and abducting people in the middle of the night just doesn't fit in with "intelligent" lifeforms wishing to find out about life on earth. Anthropologists would learn more about newly discovered "lost" tribes by direct contact over a long period of time rather than sneaking in a "lost" tribe's village and abducting someone in the middle of the night, performing experiments on them and then releasing them back to their village. Why would "highly intelligent" aliens from other planets be any different? No reason for all this secrecy and abductions by "aliens" and the momentary sightings of 'flying saucers" over a period of 50/60 years.

I'll believe in UFOs/flying saucers/aliens when an alien space craft lands in the middle of a major city and the aliens step out (if they have legs) and say "let exchange information about ourselves and you earth people" (that is if they have a translation app on their Ipad ;) ).

But then nothing would screw up the behaviour of Earth people more than if an alien spaceship landed in the middle of a major city and proposed an information exchange.
Likewise, there'd be no better way to gather information out of a lost tribe, than by secretly abducting a tribes person in the middle of the night, jamming an alien probe, which is centuries in advance of anything we earth folk manufacture, up said tribes person's butt and sucking out all his memories and historical data stored in his DNA. You then remove the probe, plug it in the alien probe player and after washing your hands you sit back and munch popcorn as the lost tribe's entire history highlights package is played on screen.

Was listening to a podcast the other day that had Neil deGrasse Tyson on it, and he made an amazing point.

im paraphrasing, but basically he said

"The thing i worry about for humanity is that we have a delusion that we have the ability to be able to understand everything there is in the universe. a good example is our search for other life forms in the universe etc. We are 99% exactly the same as the apes, and yet we cant even communicate with them efficiently."

even if you accept that it is possible that there is life out there that evolved completely independently to us, the chances that they will be able to understand our attempts at communication seems utterly ridiculous when you put it in the above context, we cant even communicate with beings that are 99% the same as us.

He's awesome.

Not sure why people can't except that there aren't other lifeforms out there in space. Only need a few basic ingredients and time.

*accept :D

dont wanna bring religion into this thread as well, but the answer to your question is that it would pretty much unequivocally mean that humans aren't special at all, and it would be the evidence required to make a lot of religion obsolete.

I think that they'd be able to understand US just fine.
It's we, who will have trouble, understanding THEM.
That's what this Tyson fella was driving at.
Nice analogy though. To take it further, we are able to communicate with apes, on their level, and we can even improve their abilities to express themselves to us through gorilla sign. I imagine aliens would be so smart they'd be able to pick the thoughts right out of my head and perhaps know my movements before I do.
