good work johno. stay strong, specially in front of the lil munchkin!

on a slightly similar note.........

a workmate of mine fell from a second storey yesterday, smashing his head on a tiled step. fractured skull, and is in a coma right now. blood everywhere and was having seizures, the whole lot.
luckily for me, i wasn't there when it happened. i'm no good at seing stuff like that.
is in ICU until he wakes up, if ever.
worst part is, he's only 20, and a wicked good kid.

Narrowly Missing out on the $900 Jackpot prize at Quiz night on Monday! :( I answered two out of Three questions right-

What is the Name of King of Leons new album? Answer- Come Around Sundown
Which American swimmer posed nude for Playboy magazine in 2007? Answer- Amanda Beard

and the one I got wrong-

Which Sri Lankan city has bidded for the 2018 Commonwealth games? I answered Galle, the answer was Hambantota.

I was so close! I almost trumped the leading teams, which are all older people who just blitz us every week. They're sitting on about 10 correct jackpot questions each, they get about one correct a week and I nearly the won the jackpot in one go!

Waking up full of life Sunday, didn't go out on the Saturday night, and had great plans to achieve...

Jump on for the obligatory Facebook squizz, to find out that a close friend, who was just 18 years old, was killed that night...

Coming to work today was horrible, and I find out that I'm likely to get a bit of a promotion, which increases my $$$.

I can't believe how bad I felt, when I realised something so small, like money, made me feel good, when I've been feeling so bad...

After going to these quiz nights for years, only once has my table walked away with the jackpot for getting all three right, and that was around four years ago.

It reinforced my belief that my love for 80's music and sport would one day pay off, after jagging those two.

1) What was the real name of TV's Supernanny?

2) On what day of the year- NOT date - is the English Derby held?

3) What was Robert Palmer's final hit single?

Very nice feeling to hear the first two answers, knowing the third was correct :) but never happened again. TDK - do you find at your quiz nights, that some tables have impossibly large numbers of people, quite out of synch with others?
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

I attended a quiz night at the Mitcham Football Club a few years ago with some friends tied up in the club. Was put on a table of odds and ends and thought we would have a long night. Turned out these people just travel quiz night to quiz night each week. One bloke on the table was a Sale of the Century champ. Another was a HUGE movie buff. We won easily. I didn't answer a question.
Right in front of me. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!

I went to one at Modbury Footy Club a couple of years ago - there was me, Blue Boy and 3 D graders

I answered most of the questions and snatched victory in a tie braker from the table who had won it for X amount of years straight - and I haven't let him live it down since

I used to go to quiz night at Shenannigans. One of the blokes on our table was a Sale of the Century champ also. We used to win every week. When he left, we would always lose to this table of loud beardy blokes - I remember when we did manage to beat them one night, we were so stoked. Got given a bottle of wine and a drinks voucher and promptly got plastered to celebrate. :D

Well we go to the Boathouse quiz nights and there is usually 7-8 of us, me and my girlfriend and 3 of my mates and their girlfriends. We are often severly disadvantaged because there is only 7-8 of us and because of our age, being 18-19 doesn't help when it comes to older questions.

The teams that dominate our quiz nights are the "Old Farts", "Too Much Red" "The Bar Flies" and "The Webbers".

The "Old Farts" are the stand outs and are as there name suggests. There are 10-12 of them and because of their age they easily account for the questions in the quiz.

"Too Much Red" are one big family often having 15-20+ people in the group, all different ages, which gives them a huge advantage.

"The Bar Flies" are also a Family group, having about 10-15 in their group and always surprise with how well they do.

"The Webbers" are my mates family, made up of his mum, dad and brothers. Both his mum and dad are really good.

So apart from the Webbers, all 3 groups that do well every week do have quite a large group, which gives them the advantage over the smaller groups like us. As for us though, some weeks we do well, others we don't. We're good with sport, music, general knowledge and questions about current affairs, but struggle with older questions because of our age.

The terrible loss of a young man who has had his life end by a few moments of madness.
His death has touched those that knew him and the wider community of Port Augusta and I pray that his family and more importantly his brother and close friend stay strong.

I also have to feel for the young man who has destroyed his own life as well as family & friends.

By reading a dew stories on news.com, these attacks are becoming a little too frequent.
