Look I respect teachers and they do a great job in the main, I have this argument with my sister who is one, but I dont understand why they take another day away from the kids when they could come back from leave 1 day earlier?

Regulations state we have to have the pupil free days, and having one first day of term is least disruptive for the students, and most productive for teachers/schools. Again, regulations state that schools can't have something like a development day outside of school terms.
As a relief teacher I HATE school holidays, two weeks where I can't work and therefore can't get paid!

Crazy regulation then, imagine a customer service business saying it needs a customer free day after having 2 weeks of them already!

What do you want them to do? Tell their students to come in when they arent supposed to, and no one will be there? If you had to do training for your job, do you have the option not to do it?
