A former state pollie I know suggested to me recently over a drink or two that one of the issues was staffing costs. He pointed out that when nurses trained on the job in the hospitals, instead of at independent training centres, that kept the cost of keeping beds open down, and so it was easier to clear out the ED and prevent ramping, while at the same time it was affordable to hire more senior nurses to teach and supervise the training student nurses.

A couple of nurses I knew in the past, who had trained in the new college system, volunteered that the trained in the hospital staff also were more of top of procedures and practical things than the new college graduate nurses like themselves for the first year of nursing.

An interesting speculation.

That's been a major gripe of mine for years. Most businesses will take a book smart person over a practically trained person for a job.

And lets be honest, they are mild easing of restrictions given the previous messaging was once we get to 70% life will return to normal.

And lets be honest, they are mild easing of restrictions given the previous messaging was once we get to 70% life will return to normal.

They're actually leading the way.

We've been told all along get to 70% vaccinated and away we go, they're just doing it while they're getting 1400 cases per day when I'd imagine ideal case is, like SA/WA/Qld, you open back up with 70% vaxed and very few community transmissions.

Funny how the NSW CHO has no power unlike every other state, she wanted 85-90% but Gladys said 70% is fine
