it actually gives me the shits that as far as i am aware it is as yet undetermined when para hills will be getting the NBN. i cant wait to get hooked up to it.

75 from me Dedja.
No matter, I'm only 9kms from the nearest exchange which is monopolised by Tel$tra and the bastards won't let the other ISPs in.![]()
I'm going to grab some fibre from work and splice into the faarking NBN network ...

dedja wrote:Yes, on the paradise exchange, and yes, there are other ISPs in there ...
I'm on a cmux allowing adsl1 (well, Tel$tra's variant) so I'm on about 6500/384, but you need to allow ISPs full access from the street to the exchange, which Tel$tra are extremely loathe to do.
So in my case, the limiting factor is the rim/cmux, hence I'm stuck on Tel$tra wholesale until the NBN arrives.

How so? They have provided infrastructure to allow you a service.

Didn't the federal government provide it then privatised the company?

tipper wrote:they have provided dedja with the infrastructure for a service, but only if he aquires said service through them, and they suck cash from customers like dracula sucks blood from victims. they dont allow the "competition" access to the same infrastructure so Dedja is either stuck without the service he desires, or stuck using telstra.
they monopolise the infrastructure to their own benefit, not customers, and i thought there was supposed to be regulation in place to stop it happening, but that is obviously ineffective.

For which Telstra repaid the Government in full.
My point is that Telstra are always vilified when people complain about what services they can/can't get.
Other providers can provide services in these locations but choose not to on economic grounds.
Telstra provide a service and apparently still suck.

Yep - and I say that most sincerely as a Telstra shareholder.Kahuna wrote: Telstra provide a service and apparently still suck.

They use the monopoly to prevent competition and charge excessively for a poor service - or they did when I was stuck with them some years ago.
I have written to Shareholder Services pointing out why I do not now use any of their uncompetitive services, despite being a shareholder.
They promised a reply from Customer Services, which department they referred my complaint to, but I never got one.
I wasn't surprised at that...
