This is why everyone needs a laptop... Battery back up... HAHA

We had a laptop but still no internet connection - lol - I used the light from the laptop to do the dishes..
Our daughter used the laptop to entertain us with her music... yay for us..lol.

I have never experienced where the power goes off, comes on, goes off, comes on - it happened about 10 times.
Sometimes the power would flicker - sometimes stay on for up to 10 minutes before going off again.

Was quite annoying...lol.

Should make Christmas easy for you this year...torches or wind-up camping lanterns for everyone

Our transport system. Buying tickets on the train is terrible.

Tonight on the way home there were a few incidents where a couple of people on the train couldn't buy tickets because they didn't have any change and were unable to get any change to buy a ticket. Yet the ticket inspector bugged them about buying a ticket and threating to take their details and fine them. These people asked the ticket inspector if he could exchange their notes for coins with him so they could buy a ticket. He said no it's your problem that you don't have change so you have to deal with it and buy ticket. That's bullsh!t, they clearly were unable to buy a ticket because they only had notes and couldn't exchange it with the ticket inspector or the machine to be able to buy ticket.

The transport system really has to look at this problem, which happens all the bloody time to everyone who uses the train for transport. They need to upgrade the ticket machines to ones that take notes, so you can buy a ticket even if you only have notes. It would surely be alot easier for everybody that way.

Transadelaide should take a look at Sydney's railway system. From what I've experinced of it, it's great. If you compare ours and theirs, we really are so behind from what we could be.

That's if the tickets on Sydney's system actually work. When I went to Sydney last year, I had a 3 day Sydney Pass, and it died after the second day. Rather than replace the ticket, I had to go to a manned disabled gate and convince the person at the gate that the ticket was a) valid and b) a dud. The ferry operators were great with it (welcome to the dud ticket gate was the common response) but Cityrail staff made you feel like a fare evader, or wanted you to keep trying to validate it (even though it was obvious it was never going to work).

I actually like Melbourne's Myki system - can either buy it as a time pass (daily, monthly, yearly etc) or a money pass (operates like a phone card pretty much). Validating is as easy as tapping the validator either on the tram or bus or at the gates at the train stations. Only thing is you need to tap off when your get off as well but that only takes a couple of seconds before the bus/tram stops anyway.

I think we're the only train system in the country where you need to buy tickets on board a train, or even get on a platform without a valid ticket.

Two weeks in Hong Kong early this year and their Octopus Card system is absolutely fantastic. Sounds like the Melbourne system where it is also a cash card to be used at seven eleven type stores and all public transport. Just wave the card near the reader and your on no problems. Even on subway with MILLIONS of movements a day the waiting time was negligible. You would suspect that with a total upgrade of the train system we would see some improvement

My tax accountant emails me to say the annual fee for doing my return will go up from $380 last two years to $500 this year. Then I notice he has a new Audi TT in the driveway of his office.
