The issue is the same at the other end of the spectrum, where your son is. I totally agree that he should have the opportunity to further develop himself, that was probably me 18 years ago as well and I would've cracked the shits if someone told me I couldn't play too. If it's the CDJFL that has made that call, then it's a terrible call on their part.

It was them that made the call, for "insurance" reasons, I was willing to sign a waiver, I have told them personally that I didn't agree with the call. I had to stop taking him to watch his sister play each week because the coach would allow him to play despite the $50 fine that the club was copping for it, he cracked it every week.
He cracked it on the weekend because he took a mark and it was awarded to someone else because it was 1 metre out from goal, he said to me "But I was going to handball it to **** so he could kick the goal anyway"............which he would've.
Everytime he gets the ball now past half way he's looking at me to tell him who he has to handball it to, I'm ready to hand over the reigns to any other parent that wants to give it a go.

Using the football reference, give every kid a trophy, but all the same... NO B&F, NO Leading goal kicker etc etc..

I helped out at a SASRAPID "sports" day at SANTOS earlier in the year, and every kid got a participation ribbon for competing and one for every event they went in. These kids were so proud and happy to receive these ribbons and didn't care where they placed or how long it took to finish.
It was good to see the participation > winning concept, and i think in junior sports much the same should be done, as you wrote, no need for a leading goalkicker etc, kids aren't stupid they will know who is their best player or goal kicker.
Or perhaps the club could just add on the bottom of their trophy leading goal kicker etc?

Don't agree. So many legalities and insurance issues that they need to be conscientous of, and especially with younger kids, they may have the skill level and awareness to play higher but physically they aren't at the same level, and unfortunately there will always be some parent some where who will kick up a fuss - especially if their kid gets injured.

You are right to a degree, that was my initial point, society has paved the way for the need for insurance companies to have so many stringent rules, gone are the days where little Johnny goes and trains for a few years before getting a gig in a team. Under 14's was the youngest age group for cricket in my day, I used to catch two buses or walk for an hour to get to training as a 9 year old only to miss out..............except when we played the gun side that no one wanted to bat against.
I should imagine ot being worst for country lads, especially in footy, no wonder they were always stronger than city lads.

Killing my brand new phone. :((

I was in the toilet with my phone - I was stressed out and must've brought it in with me - and baby Luke crawled into the laundry and I knew he was going for the kitty litter box, so I leapt out to stop him and accidentally dropped my phone in the toilet. In a state of total panic I followed my instincts and flushed the bloody toilet. (WHY? WHY WOULD I INSTINCTIVELY DO THAT?! WHY WOULD I WANT TO FLUSH AN EIGHT-HUNDRED-DOLLAR PHONE? I HAVE QUESTIONED MYSELF AND I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND.) Half a second later common sense kicked in and I grabbed the phone out, before the nonsensical part of my brain took over again and I put it on the charger to try and 'shock' it back into working. After an ominous 'bzzzz bzzzz' noise I removed it, and Mr McSpaz now has my phone and is in control of trying to fix it, as my logic is no longer considered trustworthy. #-o
Hey Goose, ya big stud! Take me to bed or lose me for ever.

I've done this before, before the business. Fired my hand in and got it out onto a heap of toilet paper. Worked well for a while but I got a new one a fortnight later.

gotta start teaching kids that sports is like life - there are winners and there are losers

I would hope children that young are playing sport because they enjoy it, not because they want to win a game/match.

I think you'll find it's a bit of both, they wouldn't play if they didn't enjoy it, but I haven't come across too many kids happy about losing a game either
