Happened to my Mrs. about four years ago. We were out at a birthday party somewhere in Hindley St. and she wanted to go back to the motel and I wanted to kick on with the lads. Anyway I put her in a cab and started walking down the street and next thing I know she is running up behind me crying and shaking.
Apparently when the cab stopped at the lights (about 20 metres) from where she got in, 2 blokes who were both bloodied jumped in and told her to get out. The cabbie just looked at her and shrugged his shoulders. We ended up walking to the Casino and jumping in a cab there. Never did get to kick on with the lads, and got none at the motel either cause she was still upset (fair enough)!
