Not having any experience of either children or the judicial system I was previously only able to give you my personal best guess as to what they'd do but just been hearing on the radio about an 11yo girl appearing in court...she spent the entire proceedings smirking at everyone apparently...but was the judge awarded a referral order...this should give a better idea of what will happen to her and others...

Scotland Yard said two 17-year-olds and an 18-year-old had been arrested in connection with violent disorder and the arson at the warehouse. Two remain in custody while a 17-year-old has been bailed.

It was the huge fire in Enfield in London that destroyed the SONY DADC warehouse.

Justice wrt Sony perhaps, but bad news insofar as plenty of smaller indie labels also had physical stock destroyed. It will hurt them a lot more than it will hurt Sony.

There is already some appeal to help the indie labels affected by this:

1200 people arrested so far, some courts are running 24 hours to meet demand.

An 11-year-old girl charged with criminal damage following disturbances in Nottingham has been given a nine-month referral order by magistrates. She was arrested on Tuesday evening after smashing windows at a New Look store in the city centre. She admitted the offence in court this morning.

A 20-year old woman has been charged after allegedly posting a Facebook invite to a "riot" in Wakefield, according to a spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said. She has been bailed to appear at court on August 24.

Greater Manchester Police's twitter feed says two people already jailed for their part in last night's disorder. "swift justice. Two men sentenced to 10 weeks and 16 weeks. First of many."

Only person released today was a 14-yr-old on a youth referral order. Nobody else got bail.

Trainee dental nurse Laura Cook, 19, broke down in court after hearing she will be remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to burg...Her lawyer said Ms Cook will miss an exam next Monday which could further her career.

The variety of jobs/studies of those in court is amazing...

A 17-year-old aspiring dancer who handed herself in after seeing her picture in a newspaper was among the defendants at a busy, yet efficient, Westminster Magistrates' Court.

An estate agent and students studying accountancy, journalism and engineering faced the district judge on charges arising from the riots.

The fate of an 18-year-old man who bought sports clothes which had been stolen from JD Sports in Clapham illustrated how seriously these offenders were being treated.

Ordinarily punished by a fine or community service, he was remanded in custody to face the heavier prison sentences of the crown court.

"Given the seriousness of the circumstances" was the repeated refrain of the district judge as she refused bail and sent each defendant to the crown court.

She said her power, to send people to jail for six months, was not enough.

One thing that a number of these cowards dont likely realise is that when there is actual charges laid over it and a conviction is given that it then goes on their police record which will be brought up at every job interview they have for the rest of their lives assuming that the firm does a police check on all its applicants. The same goes for being granted a visa to travel overseas which is generally denied to people that have a criminal record.

Serves them right. Given how many of them are educated, most of their studies will be for nought as they'll be unable to work in their chosen field due to their criminal convictions. And the crocodile tears really do little in making them look less like a fool.

Good to see so many of them being referred to higher courts too.

No sympathy to any of them. To quote Vera Bennett, 'If you behave like animals, you'll be treated like animals'.

Sadly there's been one more death...very tragic...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-14500869

A 68-year-old man who was critically injured while he tried to stamp out a fire during riots in west London has died, Scotland Yard has said.

Richard Mannington Bowes suffered head injuries in an attack in Ealing on Monday night and was left in a coma.

Police have launched a murder inquiry and issued a CCTV image of a suspect.

Without reading it, I'm guessing it's sympathetic towards the rioters/looters and blaming conservative politics.

I read it and came to the same conclusion.
He didn't consider the deeper issue that people need early social training about both rights and obligations to make a society function.

Without training in the concept of obligation, as well as rights, and without exposure to external discipline when young, people don't learn the self-control, or any sense of how to function in a society that doesn't just indulge and excuse them. It doesn't come naturally.
