tough call. Biblically speaking fornication (premarital sex for the unlearned) is sin. why would we get so offended if it was just an opinion?

Because it was said to me a day after the birth of my daughter which was the happiest day of my life. Not something you want some peanut saying to your face. Your response is trying to justify him saying it to me. Typical.

of course there is a timing and sensitivity issue, he said it at a very inappropriate time but according to scripture what he said is true.

so why would you be offended? are you still offended by it? i know it makes us sound very harsh but this is exactly what God has said, these are the standards i was talking about before.

And that's why religion sucks dogs balls.

Don't take it to heart BC. After all, Jesus' parents weren't married either.

But they never fornicated - sure....

it was "God" doing the fornicating, so i see there is nothing wrong with fornicating if "God" does it
haha, not quite... and wrong Mary BC...
i must admit the immaculate conception best way of getting away with an affair to bad it can only ever be used once

Rik E Boy wrote: Great post Gingernuts. We have been friends for many years despite having different beliefs. We didn't waste precious 'studying' (Magil KAF LOL) time discussing higher beings. I believe that we are here to breed and die but the higher purpose you speak of for me is being someone that your children can look up to and that you remain someone you can look in the eye when you have a shave....and that you learn from your past mistakes. I believe I can say all of those things so why should I go to Hell?

I believe that Religon should be a unifying force of love and understanding but instead man, acting in the name of religon has turned it into something that has caused untold misery. It should benefit us all in our lives, but it doesn't. My religon is my family and I wasn't bought up in a religous household at all - Just ask my old man how much fun it was growing up Catholic in London or spending time in a Catholic orphanage. I was brought up almost fanatically anti-religous. And while I'll never don the cross I've matured enough to see that it can provide a benefit for those that have the faith, especially in trying times.

Spot on with this comment REB - nice to see someone who doesn't believe make that distinction too. To often the case against religion is centred around what has been done by those who hide behind it to justify their terrible actions, not on what it actually stands for or teaches.

As for Magill KAF - I know we certainly spent plenty of time there observing God's wonderful creations.

Effectively BC, what is written in the Bible is very old, and I believe is was written as a guide for people to model their lives on.

Lets face it, if only married people had children, there would be much less abortion, less bad parents out there etc.

The world would be a better place if everyone lived by the standards it sets, that's an unavoidable fact.

People choose to take it literally because it is a protection.

No it isnt cos it confronts us, it is because believers confront us about the way we live. we all judge other people to some extent, but mostly keep our thoughts and opinions to ourselves. why is it seen as ok to judge someone openly based on religion, but not on other criteria?

it comes back to the spreading of the word, or "mission" as churches call it. i know you said you arent of that persuasion, but many others are. BC is obviously happy and in a stable relationship, but was looked down upon for not being married. why is that ok because it was based on a religious view held by the other person, and not the people being judged? personally i think it was a good choice not to get married, do you know how much a wedding costs????

Why is that ??? Do married people not argue, seperate, harm others, have affairs, produce children with non-spouses, be bad examples to children, swear, commit crimes ??
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

I'm sorry but that's utter bullshit. Did my parents improve because they got married after I was born but before my sister was? How much pain and misery has the lack of abortion and divorce caused countless families over the centuries? Unavoidable fact my arse.

So because this 'truth' is written, it means you can act like a ****?

I dont believe a whole lifetime of 'sin' can be undone by accepting a god.

To quote the Simpsons:

Lisa: "Dad, I don't understand, why have you dedicated yourself to living a life
of blasphemy?"

Homer: "Don't worry Lisa, if I'm wrong, I'll repent on my death bed."

I wasn't at all. It's ok for me to be insulted by a believer, yet when I insult it, it's a different story. That's the point I was getting at.

Well this thread has devolved ;) into mere proselytising by the resident jeezmoids, and is on the verge of "I know you are but what am I" namecalling. In order to kick this back on topic, I present this link:

this is almost all true. the biggest problem we have is the fact that mankind is deceitful, there are so many hiporites around that people don't know what to believe. going a bit further on from what SS said, if all people who said they were Christians lived by the standards set, then the world would be a better place. unfortunately this isn't the case. no-one can completely live up to the standards but that's why God is gracious...

fair enough, didnt realise it was directed at someone else, it was more "god go root a homo" comment that I was reacting to, but I have gone back and read the earlier post I see now what you are reacting to.

Given the attitude of the church (tm) to homosexuality over the years, I think it's fair to say that plenty of homos have been screwed by God...
