Traffic problems in Adelaide

Postby ORDoubleBlues » Fri Dec 09, 2005 5:48 pm

Wasn't unfortunate enough to be caught in the farcial situation on Goodwood Road this morning, where the boom gates for the trams were stuck down for at least 20 mins on more than one occasion but this is an absolute joke that this is still happening as it has been occuring at several places in Adelaide and quite often seems to happen when it is peak hour traffic (like this morning). Don't know who is ultimately responsible as there would be plenty of buck passing but their is no reason that this should still happen.

Traffic in town seemed alot busyier and slower today than it usually is, so annoying in the heat, must get air conditioner re-gased very soon.

Won't the $51million tram extension from Victoria Square to North Terrace solve all of our traffic problems...........?

Just be thankful you haven't got shonks like Carr and Iemma in charge who close down one of the busiest roads in the CBD to fatten the pockets of toll operators.

And still nobody uses the Cross City Tunnel

Yeah until they stop working as well. Or when the track starts to fall apart again.

LMAO. You blokes don't know what traffic is. Try getting to Brisbane on the Ipswich motorway and you'll see what I mean. Brisbane used to be a smaller city than Adelaide but now Mexican invaders such as myself have flooded the joint and the infrastructure just hasn't kept up the pace.

We want more people to come up here, never mind that there are no roads or water..just come anyway! MORE ASBESTOS MORE ASBESTOS!!

Agreed, REB.

Adelaide is a capital city - and driving in and out compared to any other capital city is extremely easy. The delays that sometimes happen come with the fact it IS the capital city.

Realise that you are probably replying to REB's post Dissident and not mine but boom gates that get stuck down on a regular basis is not an acceptable delay.

I spend most of my days driving, & I can honestly saythat we've got it good. I can get from Richmond to Walkerville, through the city or around, in 20 minutes. It's 15 minutes off peak. There are some obvious spots to avoid, like Melbourne Street (it is 1 lane only), even in the busier parts, we're still not too badly off, even our worst delays.
PS Boom gates holding up traffic is not cceptable, however, the new extension will fix this

Having battled Punt Road today I can honestly say I wish Melbourne had Adelaide's traffic problems.

I was, but in saying that, boomgates staying down aren't a traffic design flaw. It's not something that happens on purpose, and hampers traffic - it's a malfunction.

You don't save $9K pa in Walkerville, mate public transport is only really cost effective if you live in the stix. In anycase I walk to work every day 4.5km and bus it home works for me, despite the exercise I'm still a fat cnut

I guess the definition of the "sticks" is what changes person to person. I live around Modbury, and I drive to TTP each day and get the O-Bahn. Costs $22.90 for a bus ticket each week, and probably $10 in petrol, so around $33.

Compare that to petrol driving to the city, maybe $40 a week, then $10 for the cheapest Early Bird parking per day, that's $50 so $90.

And of course, more risk of accident in peak traffic, and the constant use of the car.

I don't consider myself in the sticks, though if you're in Walkerville I guess you'd think so.

The road system in Adelaide are inferior to Melbourne and Perth. From what I have seen of Sydney they shit on us too. From all reports Brisbane are a lot better too.

The bottleneck of South road is a joke. Somthing has to be done. North south roads are a mess. Marion, South, Goodwood and im sure a lot of roads that head out North have similar problems. Lucky for you if you live west or east. We need freeways. How we do it is the question.

Got caught with 'stuck down boom gates' on Cross Road this morning (Apologies to the young lass who must not have understood my explanation). Has happened at least 10 times around Adelaide since I first mentioned it. Probably a lot more than that in reality but I can only go on what I hear on the radio.
Obviously not much maintenance work is done on these boom gates.
