Your favourite sayings

Postby Choccies » Mon Jan 25, 2010 8:46 am

On the back of the thread here about words that have come and gone in our society these days, a few of the posts about words and sayings that our grandparents used to use brought back memories of my nanna and the things she used to come up with...

My nanna often looked after 5 grandsons at the same time, if we played up she would always berate us with "DRY UP !!"
And then if we said "It's not fair" she'd reply with 'NEITHER IS A BLACK MAN'S BUM"

Anyone got any others ?
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Overheard one of my dad's mates saying this when I was a kid - 'She's got a head like a robber's dog.' (I don't think he was talking about me. 8-[ )
Hey Goose, ya big stud! Take me to bed or lose me for ever.

I've always used "hoo roo" when saying goodbye to people and a number of people look at me and seem to assume I had a nasty case of hiccups.

Further back than Walla Walla is another one.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

along the same lines as Sabre... "If you can't be good, be good at it."

A girl that mightn't look that flash close up... "Good from far, far from good", along the same lines "she's got a head like a smashed crab" and "Lobster: good body shame about the head"

I always say "see you tomorrow" and my mum always says "why, what are we doing tomorrow"

We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

He/she is 'as mad as a bag of badgers'...that's 'mad' as in nuts, insane, fruit loops and not as in angry.

A couple of very frequently used sayings from my military days that still serve me well...

K.I.S.S. = keep it simple, stupid

The 5 P's = preperation prevents p*** poor performance
