I have a number of allergy problems, fortunately none of them severe enough to be life threatening.
However, I did have a major reaction to an
anti-allergy medication 20 years or so ago - low platelets and my blood was slow clotting for a week.
I'm just glad I've never suffered asthma - my father had it quite severely, and almost finished up on an Invalid Pension as it was called back then.
The tendency to allergies has a genetic basis and I'm just glad a few allergies and chronic allergic Rhinitis is as bad as it gets for me.
On the other hand my highly reactive immune system seems to have been good at mopping up bacteria and virus infections so I've very rarely been significantly ill.
I have something like 5 times the normal post-vaccination immunity levels to Tetanus, so I won't get that - I've just been told to
never have another booster.
It was also similar allergy prone-ness that killed my wife - she did have asthma and it ran in her family.
On top of that she had a tendency for her lungs to fill up with eosinophils - the while cells that react to allergens - whenever the air contained high allergen levels.
Later in life she had to be on oxygen at those times.
One of those smokey weekends with many people burning off triggered both, and that killed her.
