Parks in SA

Postby JK » Mon Dec 07, 2009 3:06 pm

We're looking at trying something different for our work Christmas lunch this year ... Rather than hit a restaurant and drink their bar dry, we're looking at getting the deck chairs and eskies out, cooking a BBQ and relaxing outdoors with the staff being their kids along - So I guess kind of a family day.

Required criteria is:

- BBQ
- Playground
- Toilets
- Plenty of space

At the moment we're looking at the Park near the Fulham Cricket Club off Valetta Rd, but I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for suitable venue?

Do you have a preference for the western side of town ?
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Yeah it would certainly be preferable mate, but we wouldn't rule another more suitable place out just because it wasn't local.

Carisbrooke Park along Main North Rd opposite the Old Spot Hotel is a good spot, probably not an ideal location for you though.

get a copy of freeinyourtown... it's available from Council's selected Hungry Jacks stores and all SA public school kids will get one before the end of this term. An excellent FREE publication showcasing SA parks etc and all things free and all but free.

Para Wirra, it has ovals with cricket pitches, tennis courts and plenty of dense bushland to sneak off with the missus. The emu's and kangaroo's are a thrill for the kids aswell.

has everything you need.
plenty of space, bbq's, tennis courts, a pond for remote control boats
the list just goes on

question for you though
whos idea is it to have this bbq??
cause my work tried this idea last year to try and make the christmas show more family orientated
myself and everyone else who i spoke to didnt like it
most people want to have a night where they can dress up, have a good time and leave the kids home

upto you though.

Yeah Collins Reserve is looking pretty much a monty for it mate.

It was our/management decision ... We've been going out and doing the pissy lunch thing for 20+ years, but as a Software business, most of the people here (programmers) won't talk unless it's on MSN Messenger or something.

We've managed to get more out of them and for them to have a better time doing outdoor activities at conferences, so we'll give this a crack and see if it makes a difference ... If no better we'll hit the restaurant or pub scene for lunch again next year.
