Using paypal to GET money??

Postby Sploosh » Tue Sep 15, 2009 8:21 pm

I am attempting to register on a website where I will be doing a bit of online work. The payment method seems to be paypal. I've never used paypal, and don't know much about it.

I have come up to the

"How would you like to pay for your purchases?"

screen, and got two choices; "Pay with my bank account" or "pay with my credit card".

Well, I don't actually want to pay for anything, but I guess I have to set it up like that in order to get money out of the system?

Has anyone used paypal to get money, rather than for buying something? If so, did it all go smoothly? Are there things I need to know about linking financial details to paypal?

I haven't (yet) been able to find a trustworthy/independent site that can walk me through all of these things...

Sorry, I'm a bit naive about all this.

Hi Sploosh...I use Paypal to pay my player sponsorship money etc and I receive payments from survey sites I'm a member of. Never had any problems with it.

When you receive a payment it appears as a balance on your Paypal account and although I haven't spent any of mine yet I believe you can either use it directly to pay online at a site that accepts Paypal or transfer it to your bank/credit card account.

Hope that's some help.

One suggestion is not to link your bank account to Pay Pal but to go and start an account somewhere else and use that one for linking to Pay Pal.

Pay Pal is now mandatory on eBay for sellers, so its getting a lot more popular as a result.

Beware that every time you transfer funds from Pay Pal it costs you $1 :?

Should have added that you don't have to link Paypal to a bank account.

I don't have mine linked to it...just have it linked a pre-paid credit card that I use instead of the traditional credit card (for paying for my Norwood things). All that happens if you don't link a bank account is that they limit the amount you can transfer/receive or have in your Paypal account...I think for me it's about £1500 which is more than enough at the moment...that's about 3000$AU I reckon.
