Actually, a backwater is a pleasant place to live. It just sits there and shuts up and lets you decide what comes into your life.

Any takers for Morris Iemma and his corrupt, incompetent government?

Seriously, apart from Dashing Don's decade, Adelaide has always been a staunchly parochial and conservative city...

Dunstan is the bloody reason we are a backwater, apart from very necessary social legislation the Dunstan decade sowed the seeds of today.
1. Shelved the MATS plan for an Adelaide wide freeway system
2. Sold most of the rail network to the commonwealth to balance the books due to his economic incompetance.
3. Do you realise in the Dunstan decade it was impossible to buy meat or petrol after 6pm, so beholden to the union movement he didn't dare make that social change.
4. Took the credit for the festival theatre when the previous liberal government initiated the project.
5. Proposed MONARTO as a satellite city - another debacle.

There is so much mythology about this bloke. Legalise homosexuality, introduce lotteries and extend hotel hours and you're a bloody hero. Unfortunately Mr Dunstan's successors are continuing in his magnificant legacy, Bannon nearly bankrupted the State, Mediocre Mike has put about 2kms of tram track in and plans to build a hospital on a contaminated site. When will people wake up!

I nearly forgot the genius Premier DD, wanted to build a huge SHALLOW dam at Chowilla near Renmark, this would have been the greatest envronmental disaster to ever happen in this state or country had it been built. He won an election on that issue.

Great Liberal premiers since Playford? Apologies to Steele Hall.

Any great Labor premiers? Dunstan - the architect of all our problems today, Corcoran - a reasonable and decent bloke but not great, Bannon - plunged the state into a state of economic hardship for a decade, Lyn Arnold - another good decent bloke but not great, that brings us to the great spin doctor - Mediocre Mike, with his mates Pathetic Pat and Fatuous Foley, the do nothings, the rightful inheritors of the Dunstan Legacy.

John Olson was a good guy and could pour a beer well. He often manned the bar at electorate functions in Kavel.

An 8 page "showdown " lift out in the paper a whole week before the game and also with 1 of the sides having to play a game before the event even happens.   No wonder they laugh at us.
