Where we live in the Mt Barker region - an area built on in about 2003-4 - there is no sewerage system. There are underground tanks in the front yards and the council sends a company around the clean them out every couple of years. That cost is covered in the council rates. There was a similar system when I lived near Hahndorf in the 1980s.
