Job opportunities

Postby HH3 » Tue Jan 12, 2016 7:02 pm

Not desperate. But putting the feelers out again.

Looking for a job where my work ethic is rewarded at least a little bit.

Right now, I'm the Operations Manager of the company I work for. Worked my way up over the last 6 years (Storeman >Driver>Internal Sales>Accounts>Purchasing>Operations Manager). My promotion was rewarded with a payrise of roughly $3k a year, which in the grand scheme of things, isn't very much.

The only way I can be promoted now, is if the owner retires again, and I am made General Manager (which will probably happen at some point). Even then, for the added responsibilities, and stress, I can't see a scenario where I would be paid what I would be at another company.

If anyone is looking for someone like me, or know of a position opening up somewhere, let me know.

Mate, look at it this way.

SAFooty is on my screen all day, and I still get enough work done to leapfrog 5 other people (some sacked because I took their workload, and saved a wage) to get to the position only trumped by the owner.

Myself and @Booney are obviously great at what we do.

Well if you are looking for other work in your current industry my advice is to go and visit them with a resume in hand. Personal visits to companies show enthusiasm and initiative.
However if your industry is small you probably don't want the boss to know....but it could work in your favour. May get another increase as your boss will recognise that you are a valuable employee

Surely you can 'just step out of the office' or tell the boss you will be a little late a particular morning

Done that a few times. The next try will be in a couple of months when I have some track record as a manager.

Firstly, I'd think am I staying in the same industry ( most industrys are pretty incestuous, once you're in it, you're in it ) or am I going to go into a different "field".

For you, it would be looking at being an Ops Manager in another industry, is that a possibility? If it is, seek, jobsearch etc, get that CV out there.

It it's staying in the same line of work in the same field and you don't have a contract holding you back from joining a direct competitor ( like many people do ) then I'd be bold and approach your biggest competitor. See what they say.

I would however, in the very first instance discuss with your GM the possibility of wage increases or even a bonus structure for KPI's met (DIFOT etc) . That can be good for both of you, you get extra funds, he gets measurable efficiency increases, he sees you do your job well, you can then talk wage increase + bonuses.
