anyone hear repair scratches etc in timber floors? scratched mine up when a rock was under the couch, sanded it back myself and its too far, had a bloke come over and polish sand and then re lacquer but it looks the same...what needs doing is either the 3 effected boards sanded right back and varnished or the whole room. its a rental so dont want to spend much$$

We have black butt boards and scratched them and the advice was not to attempt a fix as they said you only make it worse. So they said just to mask it with boot polish and leave it. Either that or redo all the boards.

So maybe just cut your losses as is. Scratches are inevitable.

I'm no expert it's just the advice we got.

yeah you will ALWAYS get scratches with timber floors no matter how cautious you may be.

you will probably have to do the whole area to try and minimise how obvious the marks are. as a rental i wouldnt be too concerned.

I've got timber floors everywhere. You cry after the first scratch then you recover and get over it. It's been about 12 years so sometime I'll give it all a light sand and redcoat to liven it up.

They aren't worth the trouble to fix, but your landlord should be thankful that he has a tenant that give a rats.

Most scratches blend in anyway and give that lived in look.

The problem is the lacquering.
The last time my wife and I put in timber floors we chose a very hard timber that wouldn't scratch easily. Then we sealed them but didn't let the installer apply the nice shiny lacquer - they took some stopping.

Then we just mopped them and periodically applied a polish - one with some pigment if there were a few superficial scratches.

PS: I chose the rental agent for my investment property as one who has a good reputation with local flooring companies, and other maintenance people, for making sure the tenants leave the place in the same condition it was when they moved in.
