What's it worth?

Postby nuggety goodness » Mon Nov 07, 2011 11:21 am

Thought I'd start a new topic where we can find out what our odd bits and pieces are worth in case they are in fact worth much at all... Kinda like an safooty.net version of antiques roadshow...

*Mods - im not trying to sell anything on here, just want to get an idea of worth...

My item is actually my mothers '73 HQ GTS Monaro. Original 4 door canary yellow and black.

It's been sitting in a paddock for a couple of years and I've been hassling her to give it to me before it's worth nothing...

Right now it'd be rusted pretty bad I'd assume and I'm not sure if it's running, most prob not...

So any idea what it would be worth as is and also what kind of money it would fetch if fixed up?

Anyone else have anything they want priced by the professionals here on safooty?

I know someone who has a heap of old dip tins and someone told me they sell in town for around $50 a pop at antiques shops which sounds a bit too much but that's what I've been told. Does anyone know how much they are these days?
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Well mate, it could be a very good little chestnut if all numbers match ( I'll assume they do ) and if it is all original ( I'll assume it is )

In fair-good condition you could pull up to $30k.

If it is in need of a full restoration and badly rusted, still $15-20k plus. PM me and I may know someone who would be interested as he does muscle car resto's regularly. Check the link for verification.

Egad, this could easily become my busiest topic/thread on here. I spend probably far too much time in junk shops/markets/antique shops etc for my own good and probably buy far too much of some of the sorts of things that will crop up on here.

Some of my specialities include Matchbox cars from the 1950's and 1960's; old advertising/tins/bus tickets etc from Adelaide (I try to get as much stuff from the 40's onwards from Adelaide that is reasonably priced); 45" records; 50's/60's/70's toys etc/SANFL memorabilia from the same era.

Recently found a second hand shop that has a very large selection of old tins/packets etc from those eras and am also pondering about whether to buy an original 1954 steel Mickey Mouse lunchbox in compartively very good condition - the price is knocking me back a bit ($145), though.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...

If its original and has matching numbers (has the original engine) its likely to be quite highly valuable. I would contact the FX to HZ Car Club that meet in the old Bowling Clubrooms in the middle of Port Rd at Croydon for more specific advice. As a rough guide, "Just Cars" magazine has a guide in the back of it for values of various makes and models. The HK series is worth the most followed by HT/G then onto the HQ. Interestingly the "Belmont" is now a highly prized collectors item also and a HQ SS Belmont will fetch a staggering amount of coin at an auction!

I've got oodles of Simpsons stuff (what was I thinking?) up on Gumtree ATM. Haven't had a lot of luck but have met a few, er, special people during the process!

Not so....still got some value. Check out Australian Muscle Car Sales. They can also give you an appraisal if you can get some pics to them.

I'd still say you are looking at $15-20k.

I would put a pic up but I don't have any on my phone... I may have one on my computer but I rarely use it...

It's located in a paddock in Paruna which for those who don't know is 30Kms out of Loxton, and I don't get out there much cos my old lady isn't there. I'm thinking I might just get a trailer and go and drag it to town... No use it rusting away into oblivion!!! Just gotta convince the wife...

Then If I did that I'd be very tempted to get It going and drive It myself. I learnt to drive in that beast!
