Australian Dollar trading strong at about 92 cents U.S. She has been hovering there for about two or three days now, maybe two weeks ago she was about 90 cents. It has gained ground healthily against the yen recenty also. I suspect the Toyota crisis is influencing this somehow, but that is an uneducated guess. 1 Australian dollar cracked 87 yen earlier yesterday and is hovering about 86.7 yen now. Two weeks ago it was around the 82 yen mark.
Anyone have any clues as to why this is happening?

One of the main reasons is Chinas love for our minerals ATM.
April is also traditionally the best month for forex trading in the AU$ and the weakest for the US$
It is a seasonal trend
The JYEN however never seems to fluctuate much during this period

I am heading to Asia next week and need the AU$ to keep rising!

Aussie dollar is too lovable to be an "It" and only Germans think of their nation and relevant paraphernalia as "He".
And it explains the frequent and unpredictable swings.

BUMP!

1.00 AUD = 0.925592 USD

Do our economic experts think the AUD will continue to get stronger? I need to convert some of our currency for US$ and am thinking of jumping on this exchange rate.

A mate of mine, who is a former Barrister now doing due diligence work for developers and investors, is predicting the $AU could go a lot higher yet.
He bases that on the effects as our main trading partners' [India, China, Japan] economies recover over the next few years.

the Au$ is isolated from US$, as our trade strength lies in the Asian region. We are not dependent on the US economy, and the US keeps printing itself out of debt, devaluing there $, the US$ may well be replaced as the reserve currency, possibly with the eu$.

Are the good times over for our Aussie dollar?

http://www.theage.com.au/business/dollar-dives-in-black-day-for-global-sharemarkets-20110923-1knsq.html#ixzz1Yj0Tx1Pd

The Australian dollar was in freefall this morning, plunging to 10-month lows overnight against the greenback, as renewed fears about a global recession sent stocks and commodity prices tumbling in the United States and Europe.

Overnight, the Australian dollar slipped to 96.92 US cents, more than two and a half cents down from yesterday's 5pm close of 100.18 US cents, and off five US cents since Wednesday. The last time the local unit languished in the 97 US-cent range was in early December, 2010. The dollar was recently changing hands at 97.4 US cents.

Against the yen - another gauge of confidence in the global economy - the Australian dollar dropped to as low as 73.9, its weakest point since July last year.

The dollar will bounce back once it settles down. Can see it being close to parity for a while yet.

Coincidently I worked last night and had a couple of transactions (Western Union) pause mid way through as rates were updating first time it's ever done it. Western Union must of been nervous
