Great little pub the First Commersh .. Clarkey (if he still owns it) is a top bloke too.

Havent had a meal there for a very long time, but my old man used to be the chef there in the late 80's/early 90's.

Yeah, he used to work at pubs as a second job, a couple nights a week, and Saturdays.

Im sure the old 'cash-in-hand' job market was very popular back then, especially throughout the pubs in the Port.

On the topic on all-you-can-eat, I went to Charlies Diner (the Paralowie one) about a month ago for Dad's 50th. Haven't been there for about 4 years, and now I know why. Place has gone real downhill. Quality of the food is quite poor, little variety, and the less said about the dessert bar the better.

This may sound harsh but this probably is the best thing to happen to Charlies

Love the Birkenhead taven, mine and my girlfriends favourite place to eat, great food. Also like the Sailmaster. We've been to a Thai place in town on Gouger St can't remember the name, they had great food but the serves were way to small though.

One of my pet hates when going out to a restaurant is if their serves are really small. IMO the more the better and then you eat until you're full, plus you actually feel like your getting valve for money instead of paying top dollar and getting a pissy little main course that takes 2 minutes to eat.

I'd rather pay 30bucks for a delish undercut (filet) steak done medium rare and drizzled in garlic parsley butter than 10bucks for a burnt rump steak, greasy chips and Munno Para salad. Then again, I'd rather drive a Porsche than a Hyandai so I settle for a Toyota. Its all relative isn't it?

As far as good value is concerned, treat yourself to Yum Sing Chinese at Reynella. Big serves, quick serves and - for someone who is fussy about Chinese food - magnificent food. I could live on their satays :)

The steak was melt in the mouth, the Morton Bay bugs huge and although a costly exersice it was, and all 4 on the table agreed, as good a meal as you could possibly ask for. I'm happy to pay $40 for a steak and $20 for Bug entree if you get this sort of size bug! 3 of them as entree!!!

Best steak in Adelaide i reckon.

Absolutely beautiful.

Want to go there now after reading this thread.

I met a friend one lunchtime recently at Urban - in the old Queen Victoria Hospital building.
The coffee is good and reasonable, but the food is too expensive.
After looking over the menu, I settled for a bowl of chips for $9.90, and he being less hungry than me just had coffee.

A salad that steadily expands in a northerly direction.

Had my nephews christening today, and afterwards we went to the Para Hills Community Club for lunch.

My family absolutely rates this place, but I always leave disappointed. Very good prices but the food is poor in quality.

Got their 'apricot chicken' (and I use that term loosely) today - was 2 of the smallest chicken drumsticks I've ever seen in a plain tasting gravy with a lump of rice. Had a few different things off their menu and the quality is quite poor. I've had better quality curries in food courts!

Has a soup/veg/salad bar - which you need because the servings of their meals are very small as well.
