Free standing cookers

Postby On The Ball » Thu Jul 14, 2011 4:25 pm

Hi all,

I'm looking for a free standing cooker (stove/oven) 540 cm in size, but stainless steel.

Other than a couple of slighly dogey ones i've seen so far, does anyone know where I could pick one up?

Currently doing abit of a kitchen reno, & given the kitchen is reasonably small, dont want to look at buying huge 900 or slightly smaller 600 size.

At the moment have a white cooker, & although new a little bit concerned it might bring the workmanship of the kitchen down abit.

Any help or advice appricated.

For locally made, they come in 540mm or 600mm for a freestanding.
600 come in S/S and white but 540 only white.
I think you can get cheap imports for 500mm in stainless...not very good though
If you are doing your kitchen up I recommend replacing the freestanding with an underbench oven and cooktop or at very least go the stainless 600mm option.

IIRC I saw a 54cm stainless steel one in a Harvey Norman outlet at Mt Barker back when I was updating my kitchen - I think it was an Italian brand.
However I got the chance to pick up a Bosch under bench oven and halogen cook top really cheap so since I was renewing the bench tops anyway I had the cupboards under that one it narrowed slightly to accommodate the wider oven. Once the bench top was off it was easy enough to take the cupboard bodies out , take the sides off and trim them down, and cut the doors down to match..

You shouldn't have a free-standing cooker.

You should instead chain her to the sink.

I bought a white CHEF 540mm upright gas oven/stove recently (and just listed the old one on ebay). The best deal I found was from The Good Guys at Edwardstown. Cant recall the exact price but they had the better price even before the discount for paying cash...
