Sherrin or Burley

Postby 7-Dog » Tue Mar 08, 2011 1:28 pm

While watching the footy on the weekend, the segment come on about the NAB Supergoal and the $1,000 worth of footballs that go to the junior club of the 9pt Goal kicker.

My first thought was, damn I wish Jared Rivers played forward. But even if he did, a Sherrin is no good for my club/league as we use the Burley. I would much rather play/train using a better quality football like the Sherrin.

So I have a few questions:
1. If AFL care about the game at grassroots levels, shouldn't a Sherrin be the only football allowed?
2. Why do SA & WA use the Burley?.
3. Which SA Leagues still use the Sherrin?
4. Which ball do you prefer?
5. What happened to Ross Faulkner?
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

The RFL still uses Sherrin's. I have kicked a Burley before and thought it was terrible. Ross Faulkner's were too pointy for my liking back in the day when I played. They were crapoly
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep
Have you ever seen a man eat his own head?
No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

Burleys are great to kick when new, but I find they lose their shape and integrity quickly, which makes them unsuitable for use at amateur level. The Sherrins are much better value for money as they need replacing far less often.

IMO
Yellow Burley = Best ball in the market, great for training sessions
Red Sherrin = Great Matchday Ball, Always reliable, long wearing
Yellow sherrin/Red Burley = Both of these are not so great, need improvement

I once kicked a Sherrin at least 40 metres at Williamtown near Newcastle. At Findon High School I kicked a Burley 25 metres and got dragged. I saw a Ross Faulkner behind a glass case in Mildura.
Sherrin gets my vote
