obviously this one will be fought out in the courts so is probably not open to discussion on an internet forum.

I'm not condoning it, it just seems like the media is treating it like an out of the ordinary occurrence, when it simply isn't.

I don't see why fighting in a school should be different than out in the street or somewhere else. The schools aren't strong enough in their punishment due to having their hands tied, and police dont have the manpower to spend so much time in schools following things up as what is required. The result is the kids get a slap on the wrist and no deterrent to that behaviour.

It's not just high schools either, more and more of these types of incidents are happening in primary schools.

And in my experiences, a lot of these types of things aren't just a one-way street. Sometimes, not always, the kid who gets hit has been doing all the yapping and cries foul when he cops it back physically. Not condoning either, and in this particular case I have no idea about the circumstances, but there does tend to be a back-story to these types of issues.
