Perhaps the lawyers were long-winded, or the judge had insomnia the night befre, but in any event he fell asleep during a criminal trial. To awaken him, the prosecutor dropped a copy of a law book, more than 2,000 pages thick, onto the judges table. That caught his attention, and he remained awake during the rest of the trial. He later found the criminal guilty. However, the judge's sleepiness didn't sit well with the appeals court, and a new trail was ordered.

It didnt matter if hey found the defendant guilty or not guilty... as it was going to end up in the Appeals Court anyways.... let the poor guy sleep I say.
He was probably up all night rooting hookers or something anyways..
