Horoscopes

Does anyone actually follow in them and believe that they are true??

Personally I think they are a load of crap!

I got some thing forwarded to me, I read mine, and read a few others. if what you read is true then I could be one of about 5 different ones!!

Scam or real??

I'm with you, total crock of vague BS that can be taken any way that suits an individual at the time of reading imho .. But as always respect every individuals beliefs.

Agree CP, that the vague ones in the daily papers can be interpreted to suit any situation.

However, I do find in a great majority of instances (but not every one), I get on better, and feel more comfortbable and have a better undesrtanding with, people who have compatiable star signs, and less so with those of the two or three signs that aren't compatible. And, no, I don't find this to be a self-fulfilling prophecy as often you know people for a while before you know their birthdays.

As Libra, I try to take a balanced view, but I am a devout and practising sceptic.

I don't believe in horoscopes but I often find myself raising my eyebrows at the ones in the Advertiser - they are quite scarily accurate, as opposed to all the other ones I read in magazines. (Hey, they're sitting on a table at the doctor's surgery. What else am I going to do when I'm waiting?) Of course, when I told Mr McSpaz he rolled his eyes, read out my horoscope from the Advertiser and then pointed out at least three things that could have different meanings in different contexts. 'They deliberately make it unspecific so that YOU fill in the blanks. Then you're amazed by how accurate it is.' But he's a mathematician and doesn't believe in anything outside the realm of logic, so I think his opinion might be a trifle rigid on this sort of subject.

It's called the 'Barnum effect'...making statements designed to make you think that they are specific to you but in fact could relate to almost anyone. Just as much a con as the 'cold reading' that so called psychics use.

That said being Taurus AND the Chinese year of the Ox I do try to avoid china shops if at all possible...better safe than sorry  ;)

I do read my horoscope in various publications and I take them with a grain of salt - I just can't see how the same advice or predictions can apply to every Aquarian in the same week.

However I have gained some good insights from a personalised chart reading - where the astrologer looks at your exact date and place of birth and makes observations based on the exact planetary and star positions in the sky then and there. A few friends who I trust deeply swear by such readings and mine was pretty well spot on. Also, this method doesn't concentrate on predicting the future, but moreso on what type of person you are and what are the best things to concentrate your energy on or what approach you should take to certain matters.

There has been published evidence that suggest seasonal climatic and local electromagnetic effects may have some effect on a developing foetus.
But it is hard to imagine the position of the stars in the zodiac is anything but coincidental in this.
After all, the effect of any field emitted by a star has to diminish proportionally to the fourth power of the distance.
And these stars are so far away compared with local conditions on Earth that it would have to be insignificant.
