Talking about re-zoning along major transport corridors. Excellent move IMO.
St Kilda Rd in Melbourne is a good example of how it can work if done properly.
It is probably reasonable along the main roads.
If I didn't have allergy problems in the city I'd consider an apartment above commercial premises on say Unley Rd or King William in the south.
[Or perhaps down at the Bay or Brighton.]

But I wouldn't want a house overlooked by the noisy denizens of blocks of flats like I was for the brief time I lived in Prospect.

It wouldn't be the hulking beige/cream 'bogan blocks' of previous eras - councils would be very reluctant to repeat those planning mistakes. I'd assume these developments would be higher end apartments for city workers - which should see less problems with noise etc..

A perfect place they could start would be the Julia Farr Centre on Fisher St in Fullarton.

The place looks like a landscape from a war torn city.

Could easily construct a high rise there, replacing like for like.

Can't believe its been left like this for the last 10 plus years

Transport plan for Adelaide's south

RAIL services would extend to Flinders University and a major new underpass would be constructed between Sturt and Main South roads as part of a State Government transport vision.

Read (and watch)

I had the occasional need to drive into South Melbourne for dinners and functions.
I avoided driving along St Kilda Rd except when going to my accountants in Albert Rd.
I usually took High St then Malvern Rd to St Kilda Rd, cut across into the service road on the city bound side, then used King's Way.
[And of course never did it in peak hours.]

If heading to the northern end of the city I came in on Barker's Rd, Victoria St.

THE State Government has given the green light to undertake development in national parks without approval under an overhaul of planning laws.
The Government has pushed through amendments to Development Act planning regulations that will allow developments in national parks without any formal approval or independent assessment.

Under the reforms, which took effect on September 16, dam expansions, local desalination plants, waste water pumping stations, and boat ramps can also be built without approval.

Fantastic!

Best quote from the article:

"It'll happen. Adelaide is never going to go back to being the sleepy little country town people thought it was."

That is a great start but the final piece to the puzzle is the section from Edward St to Daws Road.
There is approx 8 sets of lights in under 2km.

That is the bottle neck of South Rd.
At the moment if you are heading South in peak hour you can't even get through the tram overpass without having to stop.
