Shoes/sneakers

I need new ones.

I have some Brooks shoes I purchased maybe 6 years ago. They tested my feet, worked out they were suitable (the instep is flat on the ground and they are specifically for walking/running). But, they are starting to falter, and I'm getting bad blisters as the back of the shoe has worn away to the plastic.

What do people like and recommend?

Hey mate
I have a pair of New Balance 880v4 running shoes and honestly are one of the best sneakers in have ever bought.
Also have a pair of the new Adidas Spring Blade Runners as well which are also comfy and look awesome too ;-)

If you know what type of shoe you need (stability, neutral etc) then you can't go wrong with any of Nike, Brooks, NB even Hoka if you need extra cushioning.

sneakers are at their most functional until approx 12 months not 6 years. if my shoes had lasted 6 years and all that was the problem was the plastic was exposed around the heel, id probably buy the same pair again. theyve done well

It all depends on your use. I find once I put 500kms of trail running into mine, they are toast and need replacing either for cushioning or they are literally falling apart. So they really only last me up to 4 months per pair.

I do a lot of walking through places like Anstey Hill, so something that's good over rocky terrain is required too.

I've always used nike they seem to fit my feet better then other brands. Adidas are the worse for me personally, there too skinny and I end having to get the next size up.

Get some trail running shoes then, which are like a 4WD sneaker. You can find some that are a cross between road and trail even...I think Salomon do a pair like that.

Went to Athlete's Foot.

Girl said I had a choice of around 6 to 8 pairs.

Then she tested my feet and walking, and said "Ok, this one or this one - the rest will wreck your feet"

Stupid ankles and feet and bow legs and stuff.

make sure you take down the details and go online. you will find most brands 30-50% cheaper online with free delivery.

Yeah I know - but I couldn't be bothered, and often don't like using stores as fitting rooms/advice.
Happy to pay a bit more there to be honest.

I have some Adidas Supernova running shoes the Athletes Foot outlet in Wantirna South (Melbourne) told me were the best choice for me in late 2008, still in good condition because I've never really been happy with them in comparison with the New Balance ones I had before.

On the other hand I have some 18 year old Rockport leather walking shoes that have been all over Kruger National Park, the northern India tiger reserves, and around the UK and Eire. Though they are beginning to look a bit shabby they are still good to get around in especially in rough terrain.

I find the type of shoe I like and then go to the run out store in Pirie St.

They have tons of shoes around my size (thankfully). I'm about an 11 from memory.

ASICS gel Kayanos.

Best cushioning I've had in a shoe by a country mile. I was always a Nike man (mainly for looks) a mate of mine worked in the sports store and told just try them you'll never regret it with knee the way they are. I've never worn Nikes again.

Just be a little careful with Kayanos as they are meant for people who over pronate

Which is me! The bastards are tough to wear in too, massive blisters on both feet although one of them probably wasn't helped having to wear a massive ankle stabilizer strap...
