about all I carry is my phone with my debit card. I was a footy shorts/polo shirt anti - lycra rider, I got a free jersey a couple of months ago and not only love the big pockets, it is bloody comfy as well. Padded knicks are a must, I've got padded compression shorts and wear them under footy shorts.
It's about 12 months since I pulled my 19 year old Giant mountain bike out of the shed, 8500 km later and I've realised you do need some creature comforts

To be honest, most of tge time I'd still ride with a helmet even if it wasn't law.
Maybe riding the 1km to the shop on a Sunday morning would be helmet less

Living in the hills and with some dirt roads about, I've made a compromise.
I love the hydraulic disk brakes on both wheels - especially going downhill.

Yup
Did RLC today OK time averaged 24 km/h for the ride but because the group I rode with left at 6:00 pm I did it most of it on my own so no peloton assistance in the wind. Also my front derailleur decided to pack it in so I did roughly 70 km on the big crank only. I appreciated that on the climb before you get to Cudlee Creek after Lobey.
Doing the full TDU ride but probably starting at 5:30 am to beat the heat. Looking forward to the ride but not the bit from Ashborne to the start of the decent into Carrickalinga.

Well I know I struggled....
6 hrs 22 min ride time total time 7hrs 19 min.
5802 Kcal burned average HR of 148 (87% Max HR)
Ave speed 22.9 km/h (p!ss weak) Max 66 km/h
I reckon it was about 10 km too long but my opinion is clouded by the fact I lost my 34 tooth front crank after Aldgate. Made Pongy reservoir KOM a bit difficult had to walk 500 m of it between the 2km and 1 km to go mark.
Can't wait to do next year again but given the chaos for traffic on the freeway, I doubt we will be going up the through the tunnels again anytime soon!!!

Well done to everyone who did the TDU ride, great effort.
I just got back from a 13km ride to the Bay and back, 803km so far for 2014, I think I'm going to have to save and get either a 29er with road tyres or just get a road bike and give some of the longer rides a real crack.

i finished in roughly the same time (probably saw you a few times?) our team would re-group at all stops so there was a fair bit of rest time but apart from this i didnt walk any. The first half of the KOM was pretty tough but had remembered hearing that it flattens out, so glad i remembered that and i knew i could push through, the last pinch from Yank to Victor was pretty tough but after climbing that last hill to Victor and the end was in sight i was Loving going through all the crowds and soaking it up haha

Take it easy you long ride specialists, but cracked 35k's for the first time yesterday. Been slowly building up doing 3-4 10-15k rides a week and took the time to stretch the legs a little further yesterday covering 38k's.
Might need some padded shorts now, I think.

send me a PM when you want to go for a 35-50 km ride, good to see you've been pushing youself a bit further since I saw you at the Bay.
.....and yep the padded shorts make a huge difference, you don't have to spend heaps on them either

Most cyclists will say it is critical to do this to avoid cramps/aches etc...that being said Ive never done it, all Ive ever worked from is that when you have your pedal at 9 oclock while riding your thigh should be parallel to the ground, if that makes sense
