We got thru our 29km run on sunday - felt great, probably my best long run for a year or 2. Best thing about long runs are the slow pace, you can get into a groove and settle in.

a couple of shorter runs coming up - increasing the pace to more race pace situation so looking forward to the next couple of weeks.

Im in the early stages of training for the Melbourne Half in October. Starting from a low base, at the moment just running 5-7km, 3-4 times a week. The times for those jogs arent really setting the world on fire, but looking forward to seeing some improvement!!

Half marathon would be great! I have only ever done the city to bay 12km...half marathon would be a good step up for me.

Go for it MW. It's not as daunting as it might seem getting up to that level if long runs are increased by roughly 1k or 10% each week over a couple of months.

We try to keep it a tad below 6min kms... by no means quick - but we use the rule of thumb that you should be able to have a conversation during your long runs. This ensures you don't go too hard and risk injury. (seems to have worked over the last couple of years).

Race pace will be somewhere around 5.20 we are hoping.

Had an easy 10km run last night after a 4 hour drive back from easter camping trip. Felt great - its the best feeling when you start to enjoy those types of runs!

Was a nice morning at Clare this morning for their event.
Pretty scenery, compacted trail out to Sevenhill and Pentwortham and back, no hills but slopy most of the way. Slightly warm by the end with daylight saving finishing (or me just being soft). Seemed a pretty well run event.
Were any other safootyer's there?

8-12km is the key for me to hold the pace.

Great work by weight loss guru Drago, who has increased his fitness regime post-duromine.
Drago posted a quick sub-22 minute 5km time on the weekend which is a testament to his ongoing dedication to fitness and weight loss.
Well done Drago =D> =D>

They had a half-marathon, 10k and 5k events, both running and walking, and runs on the Clare oval for the little ones. Around 350 did the half, 150 and 100 for the other distances, so a reasonably casual, low-key but still well-run event.
Managed to puff my way through the half.

Guess it depends on how much time you feel you need to get to that distance.

Coming up there's Barossa end May, there's Pichi Richi end June, Adelaide marathon in August. There's also McLaren Vale in mid-Oct, the week after SANFL GF, so your preparation might be compromised ;) .
These are perhaps some of the more well-known ones, there might be others know about.

I'm doing one in Sydney in June and then aiming for City-Surf and City-Bay, so not doing Barossa or Adelaide, but keen on McLaren Vale.

Did the GreenBelt half marathon about 3 years ago and was definitley a rewarding experience. Goal was to run the whole distance without walking/stopping which I did but wanted to crack the 2 hour mark but did it in 2hr6mins. But still very happy with the run.

Want to get back into another one but did my ACL last year and still waiting for op. Can still run on treadmill but if I run over a distance on the road my knee **** canes me!

The Melbourne Marathon Festival runs in mid October. The half marathon there finishes in the MCG. That might be worth considering.
