Falcon will probably stop then too and thats been an icon in Australia much longer than the Commodore.
On this topic someone suggested to me the other day that we should have a cars forum on here, do others think the demand would warrant it?

I'd support the idea Wegs.

BTW, I'm not surprised the Commodore and Falcon are in decline. There seems to be a big divide between people downsizing or upsizing. Downsizing to a Cruze/Corolla or upsizing to a Kluger/Territory. Seems like everyone is going every which way but sticking with the 6 cylinder sedans?!?!

We're in the category of upsizing as soon as I can get myself out of this financial pickle I'm in!

The dinosaur age has finally come to a close. It is a pity fewer and fewer people want this type of car, I feel for the people who depend on this industry for a job, I can't see any vehicle manufacture here in the long term.

If the Falcon goes doesn't the Territory die as well?

Yeah, but isn't the Territory just a falcon under the covers?

I keep hearing this rumour and think it's just that. Chevy are using the commodore in nascar this or next year so can't see them going to a commodore if it's not going to be here in in a couple of years.

And the size and amount of interior room makes the difference to people looking.

It's very sad to see the iconic Falcon and Commodore under threat. Rear wheel drive cars will become antique pieces in time to come. I hate front wheel drives but you really don't have much choice in the rwd market which pisses me off. Imagine what a sensational car the turbo diesel Golf would be if it was rwd? Also the Corolla and Mazda 3 and 6?

The car forum - not sure it would have enough traffic, but hey...give it a go.

Ford have started fitting the Falcon with a 4 cyl engine in an attempt to keep the model going through these times. I dont know too many people who would want a car that size with an engine that small.

Did anyone else see the Detroit Motor show where an electric car was released that for an SUV it was about $80k and for a mid-size around $30k. They recharge at stations that are powered by solar power and the kicker? You will be able to recharge for free, FOR EVER! The battery will give you around 250km range with a charge time of 30 minutes.

This what I meant FFS ...

The Ford Territory is a crossover SUV built by Ford Australia and based on the EA169 platform of the Ford BA Falcon. It was released in April 2004. Its code name inside Ford was E265. It won the 2004 Wheels Car of the Year award, the reviewers praising car-like handling and practicality as reasons for its win. Ford had reportedly spent A$500 million on developing the range over four years.
Ford introduced the Territory alongside the existing Falcon wagon, which was built on the same production line. Ford Australia senior executives expected the Falcon wagon to be discontinued soon after the introduction of the Territory, surmising that Falcon wagon sales would substantially decline as fleet buyers migrated to the Territory. However, the two models co-existed for a while because the Falcon wagon retained much of its fleet sales base and the Territory appealed mainly to private buyers. However the Falcon stagon was culled.

I'll have to find it when I get on my laptop, but Holden put out something the other day saying not to believe all you hear in the media, and that the commodore would be around until at least 2022
