Understand there are a couple of threads on specific places in Thailand, thought a thread on Thailand in general would be good.

Heading over in Nov / Dec for around 6 weeks, wondering what our options are - bit of chilling out on the beach, a bit of site seeing in the hills, few days in Bangkok... What are peoples experiences away from the more known tourist traps.

White water rafting in Chiang Mai. Should get some good flows around that time, not long after the seasonal rains.

As mentioned above Chiang Mai is fantastic. A lot to see. Easy to get around. Cheap. Relatively safe. Very accomodating/hospitable people.

Cheers fellas great ideas/experiences - keep them coming... Chiang Mai looks like a dead cert... Laos would be great too... 6 weeks should be plenty of time to see both.

Krabi - very relaxed and everything you need without the mass crowds/idiots. Spent my honeymoon in Khao Lak last November, just an awesome time. Heading over again in November after a week lazing about in Langkawi 8)

Langkawi is still our favourite if we want a relaxing week.
