OK, so I'm SA born and bred, but embarrasingly have never been 'overseas' to good old KI. Disgraceful really.

I'm planning on rectifying this all in 2012 with a 4-5 day trip over with the family.

So, for anyone that's been over, feel free to share your recommended itinerary, accommodation recommendations and must see/do list.

Cheers!

I keep meaning to make it to KI some time, but I haven't managed it yet in 60 odd years.
Perhaps when I get back from India...

Went before Christmas for 4 nights/5 days, lovely place.

Admiral's Arch is one of the best sights I've seen anywhere.

Book through Sealink and you can get trip and accomodation packages. Sometimes they do dirt cheap travel deals in winter, so keep an eye out for that.

We stayed in American River which was nice, but a bit far to travel to the other end and not so much as a takeaway joint there to grab a quick dinner. If I did it again I'd probably stay in or close to Kingscote I think.

Some good wines, yummy honey and the houlumi cheese from the sheep cheese joint over there is ridiculously good.

Only problem I had is that the missus and I have a 3 month old daughter - this made sightseeing rather difficult as most of the major sights are coastal and windy as shit, not great baby weather.

The South Coast. See if you can find a place on the river at Vivonne Bay. Another paradise.

I only drop in here sporadically at the moment owing to a great workload, but if anyone needs info on KI, chuck us a PM. Mr McSpaz was born and bred on the island; he was one of those inquisitive kids that explored every inch of every place he could get to, and what he doesn't know about KI isn't worth knowing. We go there every second summer at least - his family still has a house at American River - and our KI sojourns have been the best holidays of my life, overseas and all.

Also, when you can, take the side-track off the Penneshaw-Kingscote road and visit Pennington Bay. You won't be disappointed.

Spent many hours at Pennington Bay. Nearly died there too fishing off the ledge.

Some nice places on the Island. Vivonne Bay was gorgeous. Kingscote nice and American River OK.

Been there 3 times for 3-4 days each time and did not like the place much at all. Thought it was the most over rated place in SA, to be honest, out of all the regional areas. Have been to them all as well, including the far north. Not like i am speaking without having seen all the regional areas in the state.

Love the Eyre Peninsula and Yorke Peninsula and love water and the beach. Love places such as the Murray River and all the Riverland towns, so a surprise that KI was not a place I enjoyed much. Everyone to their own, but would not be heading back there any time soon.

Think the far west coast and places like Port Lincoln are the nicest in the state but due to distance, don't get the same exposure as KI. Adore the far west coast from Ceduna and Streaky Bay, down to Lincoln. Port Kenny and those small places are fantastic. Port Broughton at the top of York Peninsula along with Edithburgh and Coobowie and Port Turton and also great places to spend 3 days to a week and go there as often as possible, especially in the summer. Often can spend 2 months there now during summer, over a number of visits for 3 or 4 days.

My uncle got married on the beach at Pennington Bay last year, top spot.

Watch out for the seals at Seal Bay - they'll give you Influenza B :(

The best part of KI - the departure Lounge at Kingscote Airport!

Never gone there but a chick I recently met who works with Sealink reckons its a must.
Can't say I'm convinced but if she takes me on a free trip I might consider it.
